Some projects are more than an update... they're a way of honoring those who built the foundation we stand on.
While looking through one of our original business ledgers from 1919, 4 years after the funeral home in Gloucester City opened, we uncovered the handwritten signature of our founder, Charles E. Etherington. Rather than letting that remarkable piece of history remain hidden in the pages of an old ledger, we decided to bring it back to life.
We carefully lifted Mr. Etherington's signature from the century-old ledger and partnered with Craig Burlew and Joe Connelly at Fort Nassau Graphics, who meticulously cleaned and isolated the original handwriting while preserving its authentic character. From there, our friend Steve Jones at Back Door Designs transformed that signature into the centerpiece of our newly updated sign.
Today, as families arrive at McGee Celebration Etherington Funeral Home, they are greeted not only by our name, but by the very signature of the man who began serving this community more than a century ago.
At McGee Celebration, we believe the future is strongest when it's rooted in the past. As we continue to create meaningful, personal, and engaging farewell experiences for today's families, we remain deeply connected to the history, craftsmanship, and commitment to service that Charles Etherington established generations ago.
