This little second born’s name means ‘blessed by fairies’ and the way this birth unfolded, I believe it! This mama delivered her first baby with me less than a year ago. And came back for round two shortly after. This second birth was the kind I wish for everyone. Quick but not fast (IYKYK) and mama was completely in charge of every step. Way to go! Welcome little Fairy Blessing!

“Don’t let dehydration ruin your vacation!” ~ wise words from a young man selling water bottles from a cooler in Washington DC on my honeymoon road trip many years ago. I think of these words often as a midwife when I’m harping on clients about the importance of hydration. This poor mama’s plans for homebirth were indeed foiled by dehydration! Everything she tried to get in came right back out and by the time we met up for labor she was already too dehydrated for me to get an IV in. (Also, did I mention dehydration makes pain worse and makes sucky things suckier?!?) We ended up transferring to the hospital for an IV (which took 4 more staff members and a LOT more pokes to finally get!) and then things improved greatly. This first time mama pushed like a pro and before she even had time to process what was going on she was holding her beautiful little sunny-side-up babe. Welcome this darling little sweetie and congrats to the new parents! ☀️❤️

The fourth Harbor Baby in this big beautiful family came quick and gentle in the same spot three big sisters were born! Named for flowers and rainbows and this little rainbow baby fits right in and will get all the snuggles and fierce protection from nine big brothers and sisters. So much love to this family on their new arrival. ❤️🪷🌈

The third Harbor Baby of the year also needed to be born with the help of the hospital. I was truly surprised by this turn of events because there was no medical indication of trouble just a mama who listened well to her body and made the choice to transfer. It was a good choice and saved us from what would have been a more stressful urgent transfer later on! Congratulations to my dear friend and her family on baby number 3! Someday I will catch a baby again! 😂
