This week, the Tri-City Hospital Auxiliary hosted its annual meeting to celebrate another year of service and accomplishments at Tri-City Medical Center.

Auxiliary President Bernadette “Bunny” McElliot shared that the Auxiliary has grown to a network of 225 active members serving throughout the hospital in departments such as the PACU, ICU, and the Emergency Department. Bunny also shared that in April, the Auxiliary’s Annual Scholarship Night recognized and awarded 101 students with scholarships, a total of $83,000, to support their educational goals.

Perhaps the most outstanding statistic shared was time. Between July 2025 and June 2026, our Auxiliary volunteers contributed more than 26,000 hours to TCMC. This remarkable commitment is equivalent to 665 full-time, 40-hour work weeks or 13 years of continuous service. Based on current wage rates, those volunteer hours represent an estimated value of more than $559,000.

During the meeting, Hour Award Pins were presented to volunteers who reached significant service milestones, ranging from 500 to 10,000 hours. One volunteer, however, received a special distinction. Donna McConnell, who has volunteered at Tri-City for 27 years, recently surpassed 14,000 hours of service. In recognition of this extraordinary achievement, Donna was presented with the Auxiliary’s first-ever G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time) Award.

At the conclusion of the event, the Auxiliary presented Tri-City Medical Center’s Executive Team and District Board with its annual gift. A total of $50,000! This generous donation was made possible through proceeds generated by the TCMC Gift Shop, which is operated and staffed entirely by Auxiliary volunteers.

We extend our deepest thanks and gratitude to each and every Auxiliary volunteer for their continued commitment and the invaluable services they provide to patients, families, and staff. From the Information Desk to patient check-in and discharge, our Auxilians deliver an additional layer of care, compassion, and comfort when it is needed most.

A mighty force indeed!

This past weekend, members of the Tri-City family came together at the Carlsbad Flower Fields to participate in the American Lung Association Annual LUNG FORCE Walk.

The 5K event brought together hundreds of volunteers and more than 1,200 participants, all united in the fight against lung disease. Together, participants helped raise more than $220,000 to support lifesaving research, education, and advocacy efforts.

After completing the walk, participants were invited to visit the Lung Discovery Zone, where they explored interactive demonstrations, including an Ion robot demonstration presented by Dr. Viseroi and the Pulmonary Specialists of North County team. Attendees also had the opportunity to learn about the incredible work and care that our patients receive through Tri-City's Pulmonary Rehabilitation team and their Better Breather Club and Smoking Cessation classes.

Tri-City is proud to have been a partnering sponsor for this year’s ALA Lung Force Walk and honored to have our very own President and CEO, Dr. Gene Ma as the honorary chair of the event.

We wish to thank all of you who participated in this year’s annual Lung Force Walk and we hope to see you all again next year!

This past Saturday, May 30th, members of our Emergency Room staff and Vista Fire Department came together to host a free to the community CPR training event at the Vista Farmers Market.

Over 140 people visited Tri-City’s booth to learn the life-saving skill of Hands-Only CPR and how to use an AED Defibrillator. Instruction takes only 10 minutes and each person who learned became someone who can jump into action should there ever be a need.

We want to thank our ED Team and the members of Vista Fire for volunteering their time and, to all of you who stopped by to learn, chat and get to know your Tri-City care team.

This week, members of Tri-City’s Emergency Department, alongside volunteers from The River, an affiliate of North Coast Church, came together to create and deliver care packages for patients in need that come through our Emergency Room.

These care packages include:
• Blankets, toiletries, underwear, socks, sunscreen, ChapStick, snacks, water, and more.
• Clothing such as T-shirts, shorts, sweatpants, and leggings.
• Dog treats and dog food for patients with pets.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped assemble and deliver these wonderful packages.

We want to thank those who came together to create and deliver these wonderful packages; The Heart of Tri-City isn’t just our amazing staff here at the hospital, it is also our wonderful friends, neighbors and community partners who continually show up to support those in need.

At Tri-City, we continue to set the standard for breakthroughs in patient care. Recently, we welcomed three new pieces of equipment into our Operating Rooms, and we are proud to introduce them to you.

The first is Mako 4; a Robotic-Arm Assisted Surgery System developed by stryker and utilized for total or partial hip and knee replacements. However, it is now expanding into spinal cases.

With the addition of Mako 4, Tri-City is the first hospital in California to use the Mako Robotic-Arm for spine procedures.

We are also the first hospital in San Diego, thanks to our second addition, to utilize the Q Guidance System with Copilot, another innovative system developed by Stryker.

Dr. Payam Moazzaz, one of the six surgeons leading our spine program at Tri-City can be seen training on the new suite and table alongside members of the Stryker team.

When used in tandem, Q Guidance, Copilot, and Mako allow our surgeons to develop tailored care plans for every patient through advanced 3D imaging. These images, along with each patient’s customized surgical plan, are brought into the OR where real-time adjustments can be made with ease and accuracy.

Lastly, to ensure case success and patient comfort we brought on the Trios Spine Table by Mizuho OSI. A mobile modular table allowing for quick adjustment and installation in any of our ORs.

These innovations allow for shorter recovery times and get patients back to their lives sooner.

These advancements in care would not be possible without the generous support of the Tri-City Hospital Foundation and donors like you.

Today we pause, we reflect and we honor the brave men and women who went above and beyond the call of duty.

For those who gave all, their sacrifice reminds us of the true cost of our freedoms.

On this Memorial Day we remember and give thanks.

Tri-City Medical Center is thrilled to announce that Phase One of our newly redesigned Emergency Department is now open!

As the Tri-City area has grown, it became clear that our community needed a more ergonomic, efficient emergency department. Now, a state-of-the-art emergency room is ready to serve our community when they need it most.

Projects like this are not completed without the hard work and dedication of incredible individuals and partners. We would like to thank the Tri-City Hospital Foundation for spearheading the fundraising effort that helped bring this project to life. From golf tournaments to galas, your time, effort, and care have made this all possible.

We would also like to thank the David C. Copley Foundation, the Conrad Prebys Foundation, and our local donors for their generous contributions and commitment to accessible, high quality, local healthcare.

Tri-City is more than a hospital, it is a community, and we are grateful to be your healthcare provider for over 65 years.
