Wednesday, July 1, 2026, will forever be remembered as a defining day in our hospital's history as we celebrated the dedication of Sharp Tri-City Medical Center, ushering in a new era of care for our North County community.
As the morning shift arrived, leaders from Sharp HealthCare and Tri-City welcomed employees to work and celebrated this historic milestone together. Throughout the hospital, there was a shared sense of gratitude, excitement and camaraderie as we marked the beginning of this new chapter.
Later that day, more than 400 community leaders, elected officials, physicians, donors, employees and supporters gathered at the front of the hospital for the official dedication ceremony, welcoming Tri-City Medical Center into the Sharp family of hospitals.
The ceremony featured remarks from Tri-City Medical Center President and CEO, Dr. Gene Ma, and Sharp HealthCare President and CEO, Chris Howard, who reflected on the significance of this partnership and the bright future ahead. Legendary surfer and surfboard shaper Guy Takayama also presented the hospital with a custom surfboard commemorating the occasion. The celebration culminated as Tri-City Healthcare District Board Chair Tracy Younger and Sharp HealthCare Executive Vice President of Hospital Operations and Chief Strategy Officer Scott Evans led the countdown to unveil the hospital's new Sharp Tri-City Medical Center sign.
As the crowd cheered and streamers of confetti fell, our new sign was unveiled marking the fulfillment of a promise made to our community.
The celebration continued throughout the day as hundreds of Sharp Tri-City employees and their families gathered on the south lawn for a backyard-style picnic featuring live music, lawn games, traveling tide pools, food and Sharp swag. To ensure every employee could celebrate, our night shift teams were welcomed to work with food trucks, sweet treats and special giveaways.

July 1st, 2026 is more than a celebration of a new name. It is the beginning of a new and exciting journey in our commitment to deliver high quality care that our community relies on and deserves. We couldn't be more honored to continue this mission together.
