Japa 📿 sadhana (spiritual practice) is a discipline that involves the repetition of sacred mantras or divine names. It is an ancient tradition found in various spiritual paths, including Indic.

Through Japa sadhana, we aim to attain a state of deep concentration, inner stillness, and connection with the divine. 🪷

During Japa, one focuses their attention on a specific mantra or Divine name with the use of a “j*pa mala” commonly mistaken for “mala beads”. 🙃

The word “j*pa” is derived from the root word "j*p," which means "to repeat" or "to utter quietly." The word “mala” means “string of beads” so to say “mala beads” is like saying “string of beads beads” lol, the more you know! 💡

I digress! The chosen mantra could be a sacred syllable like "Om" or a specific deity's mantra, such as “Om Dum Durgaye Namaha" or "Om Namah Shivaya”, etc…

By continuously repeating the mantra, either silently or audibly, the mind gradually becomes more focused, and worldly distractions fade away.

The repetition of the mantra serves as a powerful tool to quiet the mind and redirect its energy towards a higher purpose (Mā/God/Pure Awareness).

As the practice deepens, the vibrations of the mantra resonate within, creating a harmonious atmosphere. This repetitive chanting not only helps in reducing mental chatter but also invokes a sense of devotion, surrender, and connection with the divine. ✨🤲🏼✨

Japa has been such a transformative spiritual practice in my life, I am grateful to my teachers for passing along the wisdom of these traditions and inspiring me to open my heart to devotion. 🩷

"O Divine Mother, you are the primal energy, the source of all creation. Your love is the guiding light that illuminates our paths, and your grace is the nourishment that sustains our souls. In your embrace, we find solace and strength. May we forever remain in your divine presence." - Swami Vivekananda

Whilst on meditation retreat centered around the non-dual teachings of Kashmir Shaivism, I found it interesting to just “be in spacious awareness” on the first day. I had one of Mā’s names repeating in awareness regardless if I was using my j*pa mala or not. So, I wondered if I could hold space for both Japa & spaciousness, or should I aim to just Be in spacious awareness (but could that include j*pa? 🤣). And was j*pa taking me away from the experience of experiencing?! 😵‍💫😅

Naturally, I had a question for my teacher! Our teacher on the retreat, Richard Miller, reminded me that I can worship, so long as I recognize that I am not worshiping anything outside of myself, because after all, Mā lives through me, therefore, I AM that which is being worshipped (bc I am not separate from Her). That felt like an absolute “DUH” moment as I have intellectualized the teaching of divinity living through me. And yet, it was still valuable to hear it so I may drop beyond the intellectualization.

This retreat so far has been tremendously grounding & inviting new levels of curiosity and depth within my awareness.
An open heart starts with opening to Self. And I am able to recognize how little I know yet how much I am! 🩷

Garudasana 🦅 • Eagle pose, named after the great eagle chariot, Garuda.

Garuda was born of the radiance of fire itself. ❤️‍🔥 He is the vāhana (vehicle) of Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the universe. Garudasana invites one to be fully present and focused, with hands reverently clasped in Anjali Mudrā, the gesture of intention & harmony. 🙏🏽

In honor of Vishnu, I settle into that which I desire to preserve in my life—such as a heart of Bhakti (devotion), the wisdom to discern properly and see beyond illusions. 👁️

During group & one-on-one classes, you can expect to hear me sprinkle in wisdom from Hindu Mythology as I invite you to experience yoga beyond āsana. To inquire about my weekly schedule or private sessions, direct msg me. 🩵

Medicina de Temazcal ❤️‍🔥

I partook in my 4th sweat lodge ceremony (Temazcal) this week. Each time is different and perfect in its own way.

This is an ancient Mesoamerican ceremony used for spiritual and healing connection, and is a way to connect with Mother Earth and our ancestors. 🧙🏽‍♀️

It's also used for physical purification, as the sweating helps rid the body of toxins.

The dome behind me symbolizes Mā’s womb and we crawl inside to be part of the experience in pitch darkness. As echoed:“nothing bad can ever happen to you here” 🖤

This time around was so playful and loving. The shaman had so much wisdom and medicine songs to share that kept us grounded in the midst of the uncomfortable heat. 🎶🪘

I was grateful to Mā every second of it & feel so light and giddy now 🫶🏼 The swim in the ocean after was amazing to say the least!

Jai Mā!!!🌺 Viva la Madre!

Kaliasana: Goddess Kali Pose 🗡️

Mā Kali is a multifaceted goddess who represents both the destructive and creative forces of the universe.
She is the embodiment of feminine power (Shakti) and the transformative nature of existence, inspiring reverence and awe in those who seek to understand her. 🌺

She is a protector who destroys evil forces and purifies the world. She is the force that causes the universe to constantly expand and contract, reflecting the rhythm of the divine heartbeat. ❤️‍🔥

Despite her fearsome appearance, Mā is also nurturing & grants spiritual liberation & inner transformation, she is the Shakti that animates all existence & it is by her will that we get to play on earth as expressions of her!

This is a pose we often connect with in my classes with lions breath & the mudra (gesture) of Kali which invokes courage, fearlessness, & wisdom.

As I’ve continued to step in to the divine nectar of Mā and the wisdom of the Vedic paths, I get so enthusiastic to share all of this with those I get to connect with in group & individual classes!

So, I thought I’d start a series on poses and their mythological connection, & here I am 🥰

Jai Mā! Victory to divine mother 🌹
