Anxiety doesn’t always look the way people expect it to, especially in men. If you’re asking what causes men to have anxiety, you’re not alone. Many men experience anxiety in ways that feel confusing, frustrating, or even invisible. Instead of talking about it, they push through, stay busy, or try to handle it on their own.

June is Men's Health Awareness Month! At every stage of life, men are encouraged to consider three equally important aspects of their health - physical health, mental health, and social connection. EMDR therapy, which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a structured approach that helps people process difficult or traumatic experiences that feel “stuck” in the mind. During sessions, a therapist guides attention in a specific way while a person focuses on distressing memories, which helps the brain reprocess them so they feel less overwhelming over time. The goal is to reduce the emotional intensity tied to those memories and support healthier thoughts, feelings, and responses in everyday life.

"If I knew then what I know now..."

It's a phrase you've probably heard before, but have you ever really thought about what it mean? If you knew then what you know now, what would you tell your younger self?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a method of therapy that can help you process difficult memories so they don’t feel as intense.

In an EMDR session, your therapist will guide you through those memories while using things like eye movements, light, sound, or tapping on both sides of the body. The bilateral stimulation helps your brain reprocess what happened in a safer, more manageable way.

Over time, EMDR should start to take some of the weight out of your past experiences and make your everyday life feel more stable.

Experiential therapy is a hands-on approach to treatment that helps people process emotions and experiences through action instead of only talking about them. This can include activities like guided exercises, role play, creative work, or other interactive experiences that help bring thoughts and feelings into the present moment. The goal is to create space for self-discovery, emotional expression, and new ways of understanding personal challenges in a more direct, meaningful way.

A lot of us have the tendency to minimize our accomplishments. But take a second to think - if you from 10 years ago met you now, what would they be proud of? Did you finish reading that book? Get a promotion at work? Prioritize your mental health?

It's okay to give yourself some credit for how far you've come.
