Today is National Garfield the Cat Day—and what incredibly resilient kitty that we know shares that name? You guessed it! June's Patient of the Month is a fan favorite, a sweetie who has already become quite famous on our social media and in our hearts: Garfield from South Shore Feral Care. 🧡
For those new to this miraculous story, Garfield was rescued from the LIRR train tracks in April. It was suspected that he had been struck by a train and remained trapped between the tracks for a couple of days. When he arrived at ASC, he was in rough shape, suffering from a right humeral fracture, dislocations in both hips, and a fractured nasal bone that left a large wound on his face.
Dr. Infernuso and our surgery team worked tirelessly to repair his injuries, while our treatment team focused on keeping him comfortable throughout his recovery. Despite everything he had endured, Garfield remained a nonstop purring machine, a devoted Churu enthusiast, and a dedicated employee at the biscuit factory, making it impossible not to fall in love with him.
As you can imagine, Garfield's story touched countless hearts. His remarkable survival even caught the attention of the news, which highlighted both his journey and the incredible work being done by South Shore Feral Care and our team. It has been an honor to play a role in such an inspiring and heartwarming story of resilience, hope, and healing.
Today, Garfield is thriving in his foster home, where he is treated exactly as he deserves: like royalty. 👑 He's busy chasing laser toys, cuddling with his growing collection of stuffed animals, and spending time with his fellow orange feline friend, Punkin.
Thank you to South Shore Feral Care for saving Garfield, sharing his story with the world, and allowing us to remain part of his journey. Every update is a reminder of the beautiful things that can happen when a community of animal lovers unites to help an animal in need. Because of the work you do, countless more stories of second chances are sure to follow. 🐈✨
