You can now pre-register to donate and support Irwin County Hospital through the Georgia HEART Program. While donations do not officially open until July 1, 2026, you can complete your pre-registration now to be ready when giving begins.

Your donation helps strengthen rural healthcare right here in our community by supporting our hospital, our patients, and the care we provide every day.

How to give:
• Visit georgiaheart.org or scan the QR code
• Select the Georgia HEART tax credit application
• Choose Irwin County Hospital as the hospital you’d like to support
• Submit your application for approval
• Beginning July 1, 2026, approved donors can complete their contribution using the payment instructions provided

🏥 Throwback Thursday: A Look Back at Healthcare in Irwin County

Long before the modern Irwin County Hospital served our community, healthcare in Ocilla was provided by the Dismuke & Willis Sanitarium, the county’s first hospital. Opened in 1914 by Dr. Herman Dismuke and Dr. Gabe Willis, the 20-bed facility brought organized medical care to local families during a time when access to healthcare was limited. Dr. Dismuke became one of the most beloved physicians in Irwin County, delivering thousands of babies and serving generations of residents throughout his career.

As Irwin County grew, so did the need for expanded medical services. The dedication of those early physicians, nurses, and community leaders helped lay the foundation for the healthcare system that continues to serve our region today.

This Throwback Thursday, we honor the pioneers of healthcare in Irwin County whose commitment to caring for their neighbors created a legacy that lives on more than a century later.
