Next Level is in transition. At the beginning of the year, Nicole moved to Georgia and I bought her share of the clinic.
Transitions are always emotional and like all of the other transitions in my life, I find myself looking back at what was, sifting through memories, and ultimately deciding what I want to carry forward into the new chapter.
I started a habit of writing down some of the most profound, inspirational, deep, hilarious, ridiculous, and absurd things that have been said out loud or shared inside whatever walls this clinic has inhabited.
These are the words of authors, scholars, poets, content creators, clients, parents, healthcare providers. The exasperated, injured, tired, hopeful, joyful, content and sometimes deranged…temporarily.
Sometimes, two souls standing in front of each other suddenly experiencing a moment of sacred respite than can only be found in the validation born from recognition.
Every sentence in this collection was spoken aloud here. Scream cried here. Or joyfully exclaimed here.
The vast majority of these sentiments live nestled inside quotation marks with an empty attribution dash. A little something like this:
“Even after 8.5 years, I can still remember the feeling behind every single entry. The emotional charge. The vocal intonation. As though both my body and brain indelibly coded it.”
-I can’t remember
I can’t begin to verbalize the astounding privilege it has been to have paid witness to this brilliant display of humanity.
The deeper layer is even more astounding: I co-created this space and co-authored this story. Who the f*** am I? AND I didn’t do it alone but can I carry forward alone? Who the f*** am I?
After re-reading this collection, I know will give it everything I have.
In the itchiness of this transition, I’ve decided to start putting some of these quotes on the back of our old T-shirts. The ones with the OG logo, gifted to us in the same month we filed the LLC with Sunbiz in 2018. When we didn’t yet know what we were building.
Starting off strong are the 4 most uttered words in our 8.5 year history, probably.
