Yesterday, our colleague Brendan Riley delivered public comments at an important North Carolina Radiation Protection Commission hearing.

He was joined by community health center leaders Jamie Carter (Ocracoke Health Center CEO), Tammy Collins (CommWell Health VP/Chief Quality & Corporate Compliance Officer), and Chris Vann (CommWell Health VP/Chief Government Affairs and Community Development Officer), who shared first-hand the impact of a proposed Commission rule that would make physician associates, medical assistants, nurse practitioners, and other qualified community health center workers ineligible from operating X-ray machines as part of vital patient care.

This rule would harm communities—particularly in rural areas—by increasing patient wait times, reducing same-day diagnostic access, and forcing patients to seek care in higher-cost emergency facilities elsewhere.

National Health Center Week – Day 4: Health Conditions Focus Day
Community Health Centers are on the front lines of preventing and managing chronic diseases, helping people live healthier lives every day.

At Ocracoke Health Center, we're proud to provide quality healthcare and wellness services that help our community stay healthy.

In 2024 alone, Community Health Centers nationwide:

• 3.5 million patients received diabetes care, with 72% achieving A1c control

• 6.2 million patients received hypertension care, with 67% achieving blood pressure control

• 10 million patients received obesity care, with 72% of youth screened and counseled on nutrition and physical activity

That's prevention in action. That's the value of Community Health Centers.

Tomorrow is Population Focus Day!

We're collecting school supplies and non-perishable canned goods to benefit local families.

Donation boxes will be available inside Ocracoke Health Center.
