Air Quality Alert Remains in Effect as Wildfire Smoke Moves into Lincoln County

LINCOLN COUNTY, Wash. โ€“ An air quality alert remains in effect as smoke from local and regional wildfires is expected to increase across the area. Changing wind patterns are expected to bring additional smoke into the region, which may cause air quality conditions to worsen. Lincoln County Public Health encourages residents to stay informed about current air quality conditions and take steps to protect their health when smoke levels are elevated.

Monitor Air Quality and Plan Ahead
Residents can check current air quality conditions and hourly updates at:
www.airnow.gov
Washington Smoke Blog

Air quality conditions can change quickly, so residents are encouraged to check conditions before spending extended time outdoors.

Protect Your Health During Smoky Conditions
When wildfire smoke impacts air quality:
Reduce time spent outdoors and avoid strenuous outdoor activities when air quality is poor.
Consider moving outdoor activities indoors or rescheduling when smoke levels are unhealthy.
If you must be outdoors during unhealthy air conditions, wear a properly fitted N95 respirator. Cloth and surgical masks do not provide the same protection from wildfire smoke particles.
Keep indoor air as clean as possible by closing windows and doors, using a HEPA air filter if available, and avoiding activities that add smoke or particles indoors, such as burning candles, using wood stoves or fireplaces, smoking, or vacuuming. You can create a do-it-yourself box fan filter, if needed.
Listen to your body. If you experience symptoms such as difficulty breathing, chest pain, severe coughing, or other concerning symptoms, contact your healthcare provider or seek emergency care.
Check on neighbors, family members, and friends who may be more sensitive to smoke, including older adults, young children, pregnant people, and individuals with heart or lung conditions.

AirNow is your one-stop source for air quality data. Our recently redesigned site highlights air quality in your local area first, while still providing air quality information at state, national, and world views.
