In recent days, our West Texas community has faced heartbreak, loss, and uncertainty. During times like these, we are reminded of what matters most: our loved ones, our neighbors, and the support we offer one another.

As the sun sets over the Permian Basin, may we take a moment to check in on those around us, extend kindness where we can, and hold space for those who are grieving.

May we continue to care for one another in the days ahead. ❀️

Feelings can be a little like houseguests. Some are welcome, some show up uninvited, and some seem to overstay their welcome. 🧠🎭

That being said, emotions are important sources of information. They help us understand our needs, values, boundaries, and experiences. But many of us were taught to label emotions as simply "good" or "bad," which can make it harder to recognize what we're actually feeling.

An emotions wheel can help us move beyond "I'm fine," or "I'm annoyed" and identify more specific emotions underneath. For example, anger might be masking hurt, disappointment, embarrassment, or fear. The more accurately we can name our emotions, the better we can understand and respond to them.

Research shows that identifying and labeling emotions can help reduce emotional intensity, improve self-awareness, and support healthier coping skills. In other words, putting feelings into words helps your brain make sense of what it's experiencing. πŸ“š

This week, try checking in with an emotions wheel when something feels off. You might discover that "grumpy" was actually "overwhelmed," "lonely," or simply "hungry." (And never underestimate the emotional power of a nap and a snack.) 😴🍎

Our thoughts are with the family, loved ones, fellow firefighters, and all members of the Odessa community as they grieve the loss of a dedicated firefighter. We extend our deepest condolences to all those affected during this difficult time.

As a community, may we continue to support one another with compassion and care in the days ahead.

A memorial has been set up outside the Central Fire Station on West 2nd Street in Odessa where community members can pay their respects.

A glimpse into the creativity, reflection, and connection that filled our Creative Expressions Group. 🎨

Throughout this 5-week journey, participants used art and self-expression as a way to explore emotions, build awareness, and create space for personal reflection.

Creative expression can be a powerful tool for understanding ourselves. Through the process of art, the participants tapped into their ability to express what can feel difficult to put into words.

Thank you to everyone who showed up. We are honored to share a small look into the meaningful work created in this group, hosted by Desirae Coriz, LPC, and Sam Weddington, student intern, supervised by LeChelle Creech, LPC-S. 🌱

Relationships aren't all about finding someone who never annoys you. If that were the goal, most couples would be in trouble by lunchtime.⏰️
Every relationship experiences conflict, misunderstandings, and moments when one person leaves the cabinet door open...again.
What often matters most is learning how to navigate these moments together.

The Gottman Method offers practical tools that can help couples communicate more effectively, repair after conflict, and stay connected through the ups and downs of everyday life. 🌿

Healthy relationships are built through small moments of understanding, effort, and choosing connection, even when things get messy. πŸ’ž

Which tool do you think would make the biggest difference in your relationship?

Summer can be a great time to hit the reset button through small experiences that give your brain something fresh to work with. β˜€οΈπŸ§

When we learn something new, explore unfamiliar places, engage our senses, move our bodies, or challenge our minds, we're encouraging our brains to form new connections and step out of autopilot mode. These activities can help improve focus, boost mood, reduce stress, and increase mental flexibility. And no, "taking a different route" doesn't have to mean a backpacking trip to Europe! It can be as simple as trying a new coffee shop, visiting a local park, or taking a different path on your evening walk. β˜•πŸšΆ

Giving your mind new experiences can spark creativity, strengthen problem-solving skills, and bring a greater sense of presence to everyday life. Even small changes in routine can help break up mental ruts and provide a refreshing shift in perspective.

This summer, consider making a little room for these experiences. Your brain works hard all year long and deserves some enrichment, too. 🌿

Which of these brain-reset activities are you most likely to try this summer?

Happy Pride Month from all of us at Insight Counseling Center. πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

Pride Month is a time to celebrate authenticity, resilience, community, and the courage it takes to live as your true self.

We also recognize that members of the LGBTQ+ community often face unique challenges that can impact mental health, including discrimination, rejection, social isolation, identity-related stress, and barriers to accessing affirming care. These experiences can contribute to higher rates of anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns.

At Insight Counseling Center, we believe that every person deserves to be seen, heard, respected, and supported. Our clinicians are committed to providing compassionate, trauma-informed care that honors each individual's unique experiences, identities, relationships, and journey toward healing.

Whether you are navigating questions of identity, coping with life transitions, processing past experiences, strengthening relationships, or simply seeking support, you deserve a space where you can show up as yourself.

This month and every month, we remain committed to advocating for inclusive, accessible, and empathetic mental health care for all. β€οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œ
