Going back to school can bring a lot of changes for families. School starting changes your families daily routines and can all be big transitions.

Preparing ahead of time can help make the adjustment a little easier so here's a few tips on how to do so! The goal is to give your family some familiarity and support as they adjust to something new.

â—Ź Gradually adjust routines
Start moving bedtime, wake-up times, and other daily routines as school gets closer. Practicing your new routine before school starts can make it feel more familiar.

â—Ź Create a schedule
A consistent schedule can help children know what to expect throughout the day. Transitioning them early to this schedule will help make the jump to school a little less daunting. Children who may benefit visual aids, a visual schedule can be especially helpful.

â—Ź Talk about what's changing
Give your children opportunities to ask questions and talk about what they can expect this school year. If possible, talk about their teacher, classroom, transportation, or other changes before the first day.

â—Ź Make space for feelings
Transitions can bring excitement, nervousness, frustration, or uncertainty. Let your children know that their feelings are okay and normal. Allow them the space to express these big feelings.

Welcome August! 🌞📚

This month begins enjoying the long summer days and before we know school is in session.
Some may be excited for school and others not so much. Either way its a big transition for everyone in the family. Right now is the perfect time to start getting in the school groove.
This week we'll just focus on preparing for everything to change.
What changes need to be made from now until then and when is a good time for your family to start establishing these changes?

July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month a time to discuss the many challenges that minorites face in the mental health world.

Everyone is affected by mental health but not everyone has access to the help they need. Barriers like stigma, financial concerns, discrimination, and fear of bias make access to mental health professionals incredibly limited.

This month we encourage you to learn about mental health disparities, listen to and amplify minority voices, have open conversations, and offer support to those in your community. Everyone deserves to feel seen and heard. Together we can create a community where mental health help is inclusive and accessible for all.

My name is KaLee Hadlock‑Bartell (pronounced kay‑lee), and my pronouns are she/her. I am a Clinical Mental Health Counseling intern and a graduate student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Walden University.

I help individuals navigate life transitions, anxiety, and self‑doubt with curiosity, compassion, and a collaborative spirit. My therapeutic approach blends person‑centered therapy with practical tools from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, narrative therapy, play therapy, and geek therapy. I have experience working with adolescents on the autism spectrum and those diagnosed with ADHD, OCD, and ODD.

My passion lies in supporting teenagers, a population I believe is often overlooked despite their vulnerability and resilience. I strive to create a space where teens feel seen, heard, and empowered to explore their identity and strengths.

As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I am committed to fostering a safe, affirming, and non‑judgmental environment where every individual can express themselves authentically and at their own pace.

All of my work is conducted under the direct supervision of Alisa Roberts, Clinical Director.
