Teen behavior is communication.
The eye rolls, slammed doors, withdrawal, irritability, and defiance often have a message underneath them. While behavior isn't always acceptable, it is often meaningful.
Instead of asking, "How do I stop this behavior?" try asking:
• What is my teen trying to communicate?
• What need might be underneath this reaction?
• What emotion is too difficult to put into words?
Teens are navigating growing independence, changing relationships, academic pressures, social expectations, and a developing sense of identity. Sometimes their behavior speaks before they have the words to explain what they're experiencing.
Curiosity creates connection. Connection creates influence.
When we look beyond the behavior, we create opportunities for understanding, trust, and growth.
