Important Update in Women's Health: PCOS Has a New Medical Name

A significant international update in women's healthcare was announced this year. The condition historically known as Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS) is now officially recognized as Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS).

The name change was established through an international expert consensus published in The Lancet in May 2026 and supported by more than 50 leading medical and patient advocacy organizations. The updated terminology better reflects what healthcare providers and researchers have long understood: this condition affects much more than the ovaries.

PMOS is a complex condition that can impact hormone balance, metabolism, ovulation, fertility, and long-term health. While the name has changed, the goal remains the same: early diagnosis, individualized treatment, and compassionate care to help women manage symptoms and protect their health.

If you've previously been diagnosed with PCOS, there's no need for concern. This update reflects a better understanding of the condition, not a change in your diagnosis.

At Lakeside Doctors, we stay current with advances in women's healthcare so we can continue providing evidence-based, personalized care for every stage of life. If you have questions about PMOS, formerly known as PCOS, we're here to help.

Some friendships become part of your birth story.

Maybe it was the friend who sat with you through long nights of newborn feedings. The one who checked in after your postpartum visit. The person who celebrated every milestone, listened without judgment, or simply reminded you that you were doing a wonderful job.

On International Friendship Day, we're celebrating the people who show up during life's biggest moments.

Tag your labor support bestie, postpartum cheerleader, or the mom friend who helped you through the journey. Let them know how much their friendship has meant to you.

Happy International Friendship Day from all of us at Lakeside Doctors.

Know Your Normal

You know your body better than anyone else.

Paying attention to changes can help you recognize when it may be time to talk with your healthcare provider. Small changes are often your body's way of letting you know something deserves attention.

Take note of changes such as:
• Menstrual cycles that become heavier, lighter, or more irregular
• New or unusual symptoms that persist
• Changes in your breasts, including lumps, skin changes, or ni**le discharge
• Changes in bladder habits, such as increased urgency or frequency

Many women's health conditions are easier to address when concerns are identified early. Trust yourself, listen to your body, and don't hesitate to ask questions.

If something feels different, we're here to help.

Fibroids are a common women’s health condition that many women experience during their lifetime. 💙

Fibroids are usually noncancerous growths that develop in or around the wall of the uterus. Some may be very small, while others can grow much larger. They may occur individually or in multiples and are most commonly diagnosed in women during their 30s and 40s.

While some women experience no symptoms, fibroids can sometimes cause:
• Heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding
• Pelvic discomfort or pressure
• Frequent urination
• Re**al pressure or bloating

The good news is that treatment options are available. Depending on symptoms and overall health goals, care may include monitoring, medication, or surgical treatment.

At Lakeside Doctors, our physicians provide personalized care and treatment plans designed around each woman’s unique needs and stage of life. If you are experiencing symptoms or have concerns about fibroids, we encourage you to schedule an appointment with your provider.
