Important Update for Families & Recovery Communities
On July 1, 2026, the DEA announced it is moving to temporarily place 7-OH (7-hydroxymitragynine) and related substances into Schedule I — the same category as substances with no accepted medical use and high potential for abuse.
What you need to know:
• 7-OH is showing up in gas stations, smoke shops, and online in powders, tablets, gummies, and dissolvable strips — often marketed as "kratom extract" or "7-OH shots."
• These are NOT the same as traditional botanical kratom. DEA testing found these commercial products contain concentrations of 7-OH far higher than what occurs naturally in the plant — and the effects are opioid-like and unpredictable.
• This action does not apply to traditional botanical kratom products below the specified threshold.
Why it matters: If you have a loved one in recovery, or you're a parent, coach, or first responder — this is a substance worth knowing about. It's sold legally (for now) in everyday stores, which makes it easy to underestimate.
