KFOR's Katelyn Ogle stopped by OMRF to talk with Drs. Jake Kirkland and Subhasri Biswas about how they're studying the effects of microplastics on fertility and ovarian health.

Microplastics are everywhere, including our clothes, food, water, and our reproductive systems. Researchers at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation are working to better understand the link between microplastics and the ovaries. The link to this story is in the comments below.

For decades, scientists have focused largely on the immune system when searching for ways to treat lupus-related kidney disease. A landmark study involving Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation scientists offers a new perspective: The kidneys themselves may play a bigger role than previously thought.

On Aug. 28, 1946, OMRF answered the call to people who “were dreaming of a world in which medical advances would alleviate pain and disease.” Since then, the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation has continued to make discoveries that make a difference through cutting-edge research, developing new ways to prevent and treat diseases of aging, autoimmune illnesses, cancer and heart disease.

Everyone at OMRF makes a difference. From our scientists in the labs making advancements in research and clinic staff who care for patients daily, to the administrative employees and other people behind the scenes who keep everything running, we couldn't do it without their passion for supporting biomedical research.

Happy 80th anniversary to us! 🎉

This week, we welcomed new Putnam City Schools superintendent Dr. Kenny Rodriquez to OMRF to catch him up on our 50+ year partnership with the school district. We shared some of the amazing things we've been able to do thanks to the ongoing support from Putnam City, including letting him look through the microscope our Imaging Center uses daily thanks to the schools' fundraising efforts! 🔬 Thank you, PC schools!

Backed by a grant from the Presbyterian Health Foundation , two OMRF scientists will investigate how microplastics affect ovarian health. ♀️

By the end of their one-year study, scientists Drs. Jake Kirkland and Michael Stout hope to determine whether microplastics damage ovarian cells, leading to female infertility.
