A HUGE milestone deserves a BIG celebration! 🎉🍧

This month, Lucas experienced something incredible—he tried a popsicle and tolerated something cold for the very first time! Moments like these may seem small to others, but in feeding therapy, they're milestones that represent trust, courage, and tremendous progress.

Thanks to the teamwork between Lucas's family and his speech-language pathologist, the journey doesn't stop there. They're now using food chaining to gradually build on this success by introducing homemade popsicles and frozen fruit, helping Lucas expand his food repertoire one step at a time.

We also love seeing these victories carry over from our Monthly Meal Program, where children have the opportunity to explore new foods in a supportive environment while families gain practical strategies to continue progress at home.

Every new taste, texture, and temperature is a step toward greater confidence with food—and we couldn't be more proud of you, Lucas! 💙

Week 1 is in the books, and what an incredible week it has been! ✨

Our therapists and students have been hard at work learning, growing, and celebrating so many little wins that add up to big progress. From practicing new sounds and building language skills to strengthening confidence through play, every day has been filled with meaningful moments.

We are so proud of each child for showing up, working hard, and having fun along the way. We can't wait to see what Week 2 has in store! 🤍

Who says speech practice can't be an adventure? 🐘🦒🦁

John had a blast working on his /s/ sound while carefully stacking and balancing these animal friends. Every time he practiced words like stack, snake, seal, and silly, he was strengthening his speech skills while having fun with a hands-on challenge.

And of course, no therapy session would be complete without a very special helper—Boomer! 🧸💙 Sometimes the best therapy partners are the ones who bring a little extra comfort, encouragement, and smiles.

Two Years Old: So Much Growth, So Many Words!

Your busy little two-year-old is learning something new every day! While every child develops at their own pace, here are some exciting speech, language, and developmental milestones you may notice around age 2:

⭐ Understands the difference between "go" and "stop"
⭐ Follows two-step directions
⭐ Has a word for almost everything they want to talk about
⭐ Begins talking about things that aren't right in front of them and starts asking "Why?"
⭐ Uses simple 2-4 word sentences and starts combining two-word phrases
⭐ Uses simple pronouns like me, you, and my
⭐ Points to objects or pictures when they're named
⭐ Knows the names of familiar people and body parts
⭐ Enjoys listening to stories
⭐ Copies adults and older children during play and everyday routines
⭐ Gets excited to play with other children
⭐ Begins to run and becomes more independent
⭐ May start showing a little defiant behavior as they learn independence (totally normal! 😉)

The best learning happens when children are engaged in what they love. 💙

At Speech Pathway, we believe ABA should build on a child's interests—not work against them. Whether it's dinosaurs, trains, princesses, building blocks, animals, or superheroes, those interests become powerful tools for teaching meaningful skills.

When children are motivated and excited, they're more likely to participate, communicate, problem-solve, and practice new skills in a way that feels fun and natural.

By incorporating each child's unique interests into therapy, we can work on communication, social interaction, flexibility, play skills, emotional regulation, and independence while honoring what makes them unique.

Every child deserves therapy that is engaging, individualized, and built around their strengths. Because when learning is meaningful, growth follows. 🌟

This past week, our Speech Pathway team had the incredible opportunity to attend the Apraxia Kids National Conference in Pittsburgh—and what an inspiring experience it was! 💙

We were especially proud to cheer on Emily, who presented two sessions focused on supporting children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS): helping children with CAS thrive in social spaces and understanding how diagnosis and treatment differ from traditional articulation therapy through the principles of motor learning.

Throughout the conference, our team learned from leading experts on evidence-based approaches like DTTC and PROMPT, explored new ways to view play as a powerful tool for communication, and connected with SLPs and families from across the country. One of the most meaningful takeaways was hearing directly from parents and caregivers, reminding us that the best therapy happens when clinicians and families learn together.

Of course, learning wasn't the only highlight! We made wonderful memories exploring Pittsburgh, riding the historic Duquesne Incline, enjoying incredible meals, catching part of a Pirates game (and an unforgettable fireworks show!), and spending time together outside of the conference.

We're grateful for opportunities like these that allow us to continue growing, learning, and bringing the latest evidence-based practices back to the children and families we serve. Here's to lifelong learning and making every child feel seen, supported, and successful! 💙✨
