They’re there for the ordinary Tuesdays, the celebrations, the hard seasons and thousands of little moments we don’t realize are becoming memories.

And somewhere along the way, they become part of the family.

Today, on National Dog Day, we celebrate the dogs who fill our homes, our camera rolls—and a much bigger piece of our hearts than we ever expected. 🐾

Some people leave behind more than songs, photographs, and memories.

They leave the world a little different because they were here.

For generations, Dolly Parton gave us music that became part of the soundtrack of our lives. But maybe her greatest legacy was the way she treated people… with warmth, humor, generosity, and a kindness that always seemed deeply genuine.

She dreamed big. She gave generously. She made people laugh. And she spent a lifetime finding ways to lift others along with her.

Today, we remember not only an extraordinary talent, but an extraordinary life.

Grief is already enough to carry.

Families shouldn't have to carry every detail, every question and every decision alone, too.

That's why this recent review from L. Palmer meant so much to our team.

They described the care they received as “compassionate, professional, and thoughtful,” with every detail handled “with dignity and respect.”

But maybe the most meaningful part was what that care allowed their family to do:

Focus on each other.

Because when you lose someone you love, you shouldn't have to spend every moment worrying about what comes next.

You should have the space to simply be together.

Because we always think there will be more time.

Family history rarely disappears all at once.

It disappears one untold story at a time.

This Senior Citizens Day, ask the question.

Then listen.

No one teaches you how to go to a funeral.

So you walk in wondering:

What do I say?
Where do I sit?
What if I cry?
What if I say the wrong thing?

Here’s something no one tells you:

You don’t have to be good at going to funerals.

You don’t need the perfect words.

You don’t need to know what to do with your hands or how long to stay.

And you definitely don’t have to hold back your tears.

Just show up.

Because years from now, the family probably won’t remember exactly what you said.

But they may remember that you were there, and that’s what matters.

A place may disappear.
The people who made it matter shouldn’t.

In 1959, St. Louis’ Mill Creek Valley neighborhood was demolished, displacing thousands of people from a community they had built together.

Today, the Pillars of the Valley stands where that neighborhood once stood, preserving names, stories, and voices that could have otherwise been lost forever.

Remembrance is more than looking back.

It’s how we make sure a life, a story, or an entire community continues to have a place in the world.

We’re sharing this remarkable project from Coldspring because it’s a beautiful example of what it means to remember.

Located in St. Louis, Missouri, the Pillars of the Valley stands as a powerful tribute to the history of Mill Creek Valley, and the people who once called it home.

At the heart of the installation are eight identical hourglass-shaped pedestals, each measuring 15’ x 4’ x 4’, fabricated from our Mesabi Black® granite. Each pedestal holds a textured V-shaped limestone element, symbolizing the passage of time, memory, and preservation of memory.

If you don’t make the decisions, someone you love may have to.

Not because they want to.

Because they’ll have no choice.

A will can answer questions your family shouldn’t have to answer for you.

What happens to the things you’ve worked for.
Who takes care of the people who depend on you.
What you wanted when you’re no longer there to tell them.
