Velcro Got Into Something Sticky… And We Don’t Mean Her Name 😅🐾

Sweet Velcro came to City Paws Emergency Care as a transfer from a local urgent care after becoming ataxic (wobbly), lethargic, less responsive, and developing muscle tremors. Her symptoms were very concerning, and our team quickly began working to determine the cause so treatment could start as soon as possible.

After obtaining a thorough history, we learned Velcro had been exposed to an organophosphate ant bait. Organophosphates are toxic substances that can affect the nervous system and lead to symptoms such as tremors, weakness, drooling, vomiting, difficulty walking, decreased responsiveness, and even seizures in severe cases.

Our team consulted Pet Poison to confirm the best treatment protocol for Velcro, and thankfully she responded beautifully to therapy. Within about 12 hours she was symptom-free, and she was able to head home only about 24 hours after arriving at City Paws Emergency Care! 💙

Velcro was truly a 10/10 goodest girl during her stay, and we’re all very happy she’s feeling so much better. We do think she may need to reconsider her future career as an amateur exterminator, though. 😂🐜

Cooper Picked the WRONG Backyard Friend… 🐍😬🐾

Sweet Cooper came to City Paws Emergency Care after his dad noticed him playing with something outside. Upon closer inspection, he realized that “toy” was actually a copperhead snake! After removing the snake and getting Cooper safely away from the situation, his dad quickly noticed Cooper’s face beginning to swell and rushed him straight to us for care.

Snake bites from venomous snakes like copperheads can cause significant swelling, pain, bruising, tissue damage, and other serious complications if not treated promptly. Thankfully, Cooper’s owners acted quickly, which made a huge difference in his care and recovery. 💙

Once at our hospital, Cooper received an anti-venom infusion to help neutralize the venom and reduce further damage from the bite. Between his owners’ fast response and prompt medical treatment, Cooper was able to start feeling much better and head home with outpatient care and monitoring.

We’re pretty sure Cooper has officially decided the “spicy rope” in the yard is NOT a toy after all. 😅🐍

Today we’re celebrating one of our favorite forms of medicine: a little extra love.

Whether it’s snuggling our own cats at home or comforting feline patients during their stay with us, our team knows that sometimes a gentle hug, a soft purr, and a reassuring touch can make all the difference. While medicine, diagnostics, and treatments are incredibly important, we believe emotional comfort matters too.
