We were devastated to learn of the passing of Dolly Parton yesterday. Dolly's contributions to early childhood literacy are legendary and will never be forgotten. Because of Dolly, Kansas kids can get a new book every month from birth to age 5 through her Imagination Library. Dolly also made significant contributions to mRNA vaccine research which saved countless lives during the Covid 19 pandemic and shows promise for so many more illnesses in the future. Dolly's kind and accepting heart is an example we all seek to imitate. Dolly, we will always love you!

You may have heard about an executive order encouraging changes to the childhood vaccine schedule. These changes are not based on any scientific recommendations or evidence at all.

Here at Sunshine Pediatrics we will continue to follow the AAP recommended immunization schedule. We believe all our patients deserve protection against the many life threatening illnesses that vaccines were designed to prevent. We believe in science and understand that vaccines are continually studied and the schedule refined based on science, not political whim.

We believe in vaccinating kids in as few injections and visits as is safely possible. We know families are busy and dividing up vaccines into more visits may just mean more children go unprotected when parents can’t take time off work.

There is no individual measles, mumps or rubella vaccine available in the US and any attempt to make one would be years and many studies away. There is zero evidence that dividing up the current vaccine into multiple single shots is in any way better. During the largest measles outbreak most of us have ever seen delaying the process of vaccinating children only causes more harm.

Here at Sunshine Pediatrics vaccines are one of the many tools we use to help YOU help your children grow up safe and healthy. We will continue to provide the best science based care we can to your families. We believe in vaccines and in science and we appreciate the trust you have placed in us.

Flu shots will be arriving next month. We highly recommend making sure your children are protected!!

A recent study in Pediatrics found that influenza vaccination reduced the risk of death from flu among U.S. kids and teens in recent years. The overall vaccine effectiveness against death from flu was 80% from August 2016 through July 2025.

The AAP recommends kids get the flu vaccine each year, starting at 6 months of age, to provide them with the strongest protect against severe illness. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4q7R5xn

If you get a letter from your insurance company telling you our office is out of network PLEASE call us to confirm. Since our transition to Sunshine Pediatrics there have been some errors and we are still in network with most.
