Sunday energy, courtesy of some very wise Hawaiians I met in Maui a few weeks ago. 🤍

In Hawaiian culture, the Honu, the green sea turtle, is a symbol of good luck, endurance, and the wisdom to navigate life’s currents with patience.

Watching them rest here completely unbothered, not rushing, not performing, just fully occupying their space on this earth, felt like a gentle reminder I did not know I needed.

You are allowed to rest today. Not because you have earned it. Just because it is Sunday and your nervous system deserves it.

Whatever you are carrying this week, I hope you find at least one Honu moment today. 🐢

Today is World Mental Health Day, and I want to use it to say something simple.

You do not have to be in crisis to deserve support.

So many people wait until things completely fall apart before they allow themselves to ask for help. They convince themselves that what they are carrying is not heavy enough, not serious enough, not bad enough yet.

But mental health is not just about surviving the hard moments. It is about building a life that feels genuinely connected, calm, and like yours.

If you have been putting off reaching out because you are not sure you "qualify," consider this your reminder that you do.

Today and every day, you are allowed to take that single step toward feeling better. Visit https://www.asinglestepcounseling.com/ for a free 15 minute consult. 🤍

Five days into October and this is still the energy I am holding onto. 🤍

World Mental Health Day is October 10th, and I think the most honest way I can show up for it is by sharing what it actually looks like to take care of yourself. Sometimes it is just sandy feet, a meaningful book, and the decision to be fully somewhere for a few hours.

You deserve that kind of presence too. Not just the people on your to-do list.

What does rest look like for you this week?

If you think EMDR therapy sounds like a sci-fi experiment involving hypnotism, you are definitely not alone.

When people first hear about it, they often imagine something intense or intimidating.

In reality, EMDR is just a gentle way of helping your brain do what it naturally wants to do: heal.

Think about a time your body healed from a small cut. Your body knew exactly how to mend itself once the pressure was removed.

Sometimes, emotionally heavy experiences get stuck in our nervous system like a record on repeat.

When a past memory gets jammed, your brain keeps reacting as if the old threat is still happening right now.

EMDR simply uses light eye movements or gentle tapping to help your brain process those stuck moments.

You stay fully awake, fully in control, and you do not have to relive every painful detail.

It just helps soften the sharp edge of old pain so you can finally feel safe in the present.

Your mind already holds the capacity to heal, sometimes it just needs a little assistance to find its way forward.

For years, many of us tell ourselves that handling every single thing alone is the ultimate sign of strength.

We push through the exhaustion, quietly convinced that needing support is somehow a white flag.

The truth is, saying "I don't think I can keep doing this alone" is not a surrender.

It takes immense courage to lower your guard and admit that your shoulders were never meant to carry everything.

Reaching out does not mean you broke down.

It means you finally decided to stop suffering in silence.

Real strength isn't about how much pain you can quietly tolerate.

It is about choosing connection over isolation when life gets heavy.

If you are ready to take that next step, visit asinglestepcounseling.com to connect.

Sometimes your body remembers something before your mind has even had time to catch up.

A certain date arrives, and suddenly you feel more anxious, exhausted, emotional, or on edge. You may not immediately understand why.

As a trauma therapist, I often remind people that healing does not mean your body simply forgets what you have been through.

Anniversaries, seasons, songs, places, and even seemingly ordinary dates can hold memories. Years may pass, and your nervous system can still recognize something connected to a difficult experience.

That does not mean you are going backward.

It may simply mean that a part of you remembers.

If a certain time of year feels heavier than expected, try meeting yourself with curiosity instead of judgment. Slow down. Notice what you need. Give yourself permission to feel what comes up.

And if those feelings feel too heavy to carry alone, reaching out for support can be an important next step.

Sometimes healing begins with recognizing that your reaction makes sense.

For a long time, I thought strength meant carrying everything on my own without making a sound.

Most of us were taught that being strong means keeping our struggles hidden away in the dark.

When pain gets bottled up inside, it slowly turns into quiet, exhausting isolation.

World Su***de Prevention Day is a gentle reminder that carrying it all alone was never the plan.

Reaching out when you are hurting isn't a sign that you are failing at life. It is simply proof that you are human, and that your story still deserves room to breathe.

Sometimes the bravest thing you can do today is just let someone else hold the weight with you.

Behind every therapist is a very hard-working therapy assistant (who mostly sleeps on the job). 🐾

For a long time, I thought needing support meant I was failing at something.

I grew up believing that strong people figure things out on their own. That asking for help was a sign you had not tried hard enough or worked hard enough or been enough somehow.

It took me a long time to unlearn that.

The truth is, saying "I need support" is one of the most honest and courageous things a person can do. It means you know yourself well enough to recognize what you are carrying. And it means you value your own wellbeing enough to do something about it.

That is not weakness. That is wisdom.

I have watched so many people sit with pain far longer than necessary because they were waiting until they truly deserved help. You do not have to earn support. You are allowed to ask for it right now, exactly as you are.

Whatever you are carrying today, you do not have to carry it alone.

If you are ready to take that brave step, I would love to be in your corner. Visit https://www.asinglestepcounseling.com/ for a free 15 minute consult.
