Who you have in your birth space matters just as much as how your body works.

In Part 3 & 4 of our Lamaze Pain Management Series, we are diving into two crucial elements of a physiologic birth: continuous support and intentional decision-making.

🤎 Part 3: Continuous Support
Labor isn’t just a physical event; it’s deeply emotional. Having a dedicated partner, a trusted doula, or your midwifery team by your side creates a "safety cocoon." Studies show that continuous support significantly lowers the need for interventions and increases your overall satisfaction with your birth story. You were never meant to do this alone.

🧠 Part 4: Interventions & B.R.A.I.N.
Lamaze isn't about entirely anti-intervention; it’s about informed intervention. When a medical piece is suggested, we use the B.R.A.I.N acronym to navigate it together:

Benefits: How will this help?
Risks: What are the potential side effects?
Alternatives: What else can we try first?
Intuition: What does your gut say?
Nothing: What happens if we just wait?

Part 1 & 2: Why patience and movement are your body’s natural epidural.

Welcome back to our Pain Management Series! Tonight, we are opening up the Qavah Birth Toolbox to take a deeper look at the first two practices of modern Lamaze: Natural Starts and Intuitive Movement.

Here is the biological secret to managing labor intensity:

⏳ 1. Let labor begin on its own. When labor starts spontaneously, your body releases oxytocin in a beautiful, gradual wave. In response, your brain naturally triggers the release of endorphins which are your body’s home-grown, incredibly powerful pain relievers. When we rush labor with artificial inductions, we often bypass this natural pain-relief system, making contractions feel much more overwhelming.

🏃‍♀️ 2. Walk, move, and change positions.
Lying flat on your back during labor forces you to push a baby up against gravity and narrows your pelvic path. Moving isn't just about distraction; it's functional. When you sway, use a birth ball, change sides, or squat, you are actively shifting your pelvic bones to give your baby the maximum amount of room to rotate and descend.

In a home birth setting, you are never restricted by cords or confined to a bed. Your body is free to find the exact rhythm it needs to handle the intensity.
