Overview of Native American
Cultural Competency
A learning session focused on history, lived experience, respectful engagement,
and the ongoing impact of trauma on service delivery.
FREE
This in-person session, with a virtual option available, will provide a
foundation for understanding Native American communities and engaging
more respectfully and effectively in service settings. The program will
include a screening and discussion of the powerful documentary
Unseen Tears: The Impact of Native American Boarding Schools in Western
New York, along with opportunities to reflect on how historical trauma and
its lasting effects continue to shape experiences and influence current service
delivery. Participants will also receive a brief overview of Native cultures,
health challenges facing many communities, and practical guidance for more
thoughtful and informed engagement.
