How therapy actually is: A beautifully, messy, journey of growth.

Here's what really happens in therapy:

You start with hope, then get confused by new coping skills that feel foreign. You introspect and uncover painful truths. You sit with emotions you've been avoiding for years. Sometimes you feel worse as old wounds surface. You practice new skills, make progress, then life throws you a curveball and you're back to feeling triggered.

But here's the beautiful part: Every loop in that spiral is growth. Every time you circle back, you're doing it with more awareness, more tools, and more self-compassion than before. It's not an easy thing, but it is so worth it. If you would like us to walk along beside you on your growth journey, give us a call we would love to walk with you, to your goal of Living Well.

What If Growth Isn't About Becoming Someone New?

Sometimes the most meaningful change isn't adding more to our lives, it's removing the things that keep us from being who we already are.

Fear, shame, unhealthy patterns, and old beliefs can quietly shape our choices without us realizing it. Growth begins when we become aware of what's driving us and have the courage to make intentional changes.

Small steps, taken consistently, can lead to profound transformation.

What is one thing you've learned about yourself this year?

What is an unhealthy pattern you have developed, that is holding you back?

If you would like someone to walk alongside you in your journey of being your best self, getting rid of old beliefs, and encouraging you to make the intentional changes, that can lead to profound transformation, give us a call. We would love to walk with you on your journey.

Happy Spring 🌷

This time of year is such a good reminder that growth doesn’t happen overnight… even if it can feel like it when those blooms suddenly appear.

You may not see progress every day.
You may even feel stuck, just like nothing is changing beneath the surface.

But that doesn’t mean growth isn’t happening.

The small choices
the hard moments
the showing up

It all matters.
Even when you can’t see it, your brain is learning, your patterns are shifting, and you are building something new.

Trust the seeds you are planting.

Extreme overwhelm, chronic stress, or total shutdown... can all be your nervous system reacting to your environment. Unfortunately, we don't always want (or need) to react this way.

Your "Window of Tolerance" is the range where you can think clearly, feel your emotions, and respond intentionally rather than reacting automatically. (Think: feeling calm, zen, regulated)

When stress pushes you above your window, you might feel anxious, irritable, or on edge (hyperarousal). When it pushes you below it, you might feel numb, foggy, or disconnected (hypoarousal). Chronic anxiety, ongoing stress, or trauma can shrink that window.

In therapy, we work on gently expanding your window of tolerance so your body doesn’t have to live on the extremes.

Because two things can be true at the same time:

Your nervous system developed these responses to keep you safe.
And you might not need them in the same way anymore (or at least not all the time).

If this resonates, you’re not alone! Healing is possible, and it might start with understanding how your nervous system works.

A gentle reminder we often share in therapy:

Not every thought is telling the truth.

Our minds are shaped by stress, past experiences, fear, and exhaustion. Part of the work we do at Living Well Counseling is learning how to slow down, notice those thoughts, and respond with curiosity instead of judgment.

You’re allowed to pause.
You’re allowed to create space.
You’re allowed to choose a kinder perspective.

Support can help you practice this, one step at a time.

In play therapy, children are given a language that doesn’t require words. Through toys, figures, and imagination, kids can express big feelings, process experiences, and make sense of their world in a way that feels safe and natural to them.

Our play therapy room is designed to support healing, creativity, and emotional growth. Because when children feel safe enough to play, powerful therapeutic work can happen. ⭐️✨

You’re Allowed to Start Small

There’s a lot of pressure this time of year to make changes, set goals, or feel motivated. But growth doesn’t have to be dramatic to be meaningful.

Starting small might look like keeping one routine steady, choosing rest when you can, or focusing on getting through the day with a little more care. It might mean not changing anything at all, and that can still be progress.

You don’t need momentum, clarity, or confidence to begin. Sometimes showing up gently is enough.

The days leading up to Christmas can be full of movement, connection, and reflection. For many, this week brings moments of joy alongside busyness, emotion, and change. Taking small steps to slow down and stay present can make the season feel more grounded and meaningful.

Not every moment has to feel perfect. Giving yourself permission to rest, simplify, and focus on what feels supportive can help you move through this week with more ease. Even brief pauses, quiet moments, or intentional choices can make a difference.

Wishing you a peaceful, steady, and Merry Christmas.

As we move into Thanksgiving, many people feel pressure to be grateful even while navigating stress, family dynamics, financial strain, or grief. It’s important to remember that gratitude and stress can exist together, and feeling overwhelmed does not mean you’re unappreciative.

You’re allowed to have mixed emotions this time of year. Gratitude doesn’t cancel our stress, and stress doesn’t erase the things that you value. Keeping expectations realistic can help; you don’t have to meet every tradition or manage everyone’s needs for the holiday to feel meaningful. Maintaining basic routines like sleep, meals, and movement can support emotional regulation when schedules feel unpredictable. Taking small purses to breathe or reset can help you stay grounded. And if things start to feel heavier, reaching out for support is both normal and helpful.

Wishing you a safe and grounded holiday season!
