Thanks Lucy for putting into words my deep conflict with this article. While other breastfeeding advocates read this article and start husband bashing, I think you're right that the root is a societal problem. We dont support any parents. Not just lactating ones.

"The secret to marriage equality is formula"

EXCUSE ME?? The New York Times really looked at exhausted new parents and said "have you tried buying something?"

I wrote an entire book about combi feeding). Formula is *essential*. But THIS? This is just capitalism doing what it does best... taking a massive systemic failure and selling a solution.

You know what the ACTUAL secret to marriage equality is?

Paid parental leave. For everyone. REAL leave.

And a society that doesn't abandon new families the second they leave the hospital.

Where's the community support?

The postnatal care that extends past six weeks?

Where's the societal recognition that caregiving is REAL, valuable labour and not something that just happens in the background while everyone else does "real work"?

But no. Apparently the answer is a product you can buy. Which is very convenient for the system that created the problem in the first place.

Formula can absolutely be part of supporting families. I'm not arguing that. What I'm saying is the support is SO bad that infant feeding can be seen as an emergency only capitalism can solve. *And we're calling it feminism.*

If parents were actually supported, feeding method wouldn't be a crisis. It would be a choice. Made from a place of rest and resources not desperation and isolation.

🌞 HOT WEATHER FEEDING TIPS FOR BABIES 🌞

When it’s hot outside, your baby might change how they eat—and that’s totally normal!
Here are a few things to watch for:

🍼 Smaller, more frequent feeds – Just like us, babies often prefer to eat in shorter sessions when it’s warm.
💧 No water needed (under 6 months) – Breast milk or formula keeps them perfectly hydrated—extra water isn’t safe for young babies.
🌄 More feeding in cooler hours – Babies may be hungrier in the early morning or late evening when it’s not as warm.
🩳 Keep baby cool during feeds – Strip down to a diaper, wear breathable clothes, and try feeding in a cooler room or with a fan.

When in doubt, trust your gut—and reach out if you need support. 💛
