Some people walk into a room and just exist in it. You walk in and within seconds you've scanned every face, clocked the tension, and figured out who's in a bad mood.

That's not intuition being magic, that's hypervigilance, a nervous system that learned somewhere along the way that safety depended on catching the threat first. It probably made you perceptive and reliable and great in a crisis. It also means you're running background threat-detection during dinner, during movies, during moments that are actually fine.

The exhaustion makes sense when you realize part of you never gets to fully stand down. You're not high-strung. You're on guard, and you have been for a long time.

Burnout doesn't always look dramatic. Sometimes it just looks like putting off the easy stuff.

Answering a text takes two seconds, but somehow it sits there for three days. The drawer gets reorganized before the actual task does. A cancelled plan feels like relief instead of disappointment.

If you've been calling yourself lazy for months, it might be worth asking what you're actually running low on.

Send this to someone who needs the permission to rest, not push through.

Some of these are chic. All of them are just healthy.

Which one's calling you out?

"Touched out" isn't a made-up internet term. It's a real, physical response to too much contact for too long, and it shows up hard in early parenting.

It doesn't mean you love your kid less. It means your nervous system has a limit for physical touch just like it does for noise or stress, and today you hit it. Wanting five minutes where nobody is climbing on you, holding onto you, or needing your body for something is not a bad-mom moment. It's a human-body moment.

Send this to a mom who needs to hear it's not personal.

Where a therapist trains shapes the clinician they become, and not every practice treats supervision like it matters. Some hand you a signature and a caseload and call it support. Good supervision is the opposite. It's a place where you can bring the case that scared you, say the thing you're not sure about, and walk out a better clinician than you walked in.

For associates and early-career therapists especially, that's not a perk, it's the whole foundation. If you're choosing where to grow, this is the bar.

If you read that list and felt a little too seen, that's worth paying attention to.

Running on autopilot isn't the same as being fine. It's often what happens right before burnout, or right after something you haven't fully processed yet.

You don't need a crisis to justify checking in with someone.

Caring about someone and losing yourself in them can look identical from the outside. They're not the same thing!

Caring says I'm here for you and I'm still here too. Codependency says I'm only okay if you're okay, and quietly disappears the second half of that sentence.

It's a hard line to see from the inside. That's usually why it takes another person to point it out.
