It’s a day of celebration. A day of unity. A day of reflection.

Today, we honored Juneteenth by celebrating freedom, championing resilience, and embracing the spirit of community that makes QLI a place where everyone belongs.

Congratulations to the QLI Queens, winners of this year's annual Juneteenth Talent Show! While they took home the title, today's celebration was about something more — coming together, honoring history, and creating lasting memories.

A special thank you to all of our East Campus team members who made this day possible and for continuing to foster a culture where connection and belonging persevere and thrive.

On a recent trip to Switzerland with his family, QLI Life Path Services team member Kevin Houston took the initiative to tour the Schweizer Paraplegiker-Stiftung, one of the world's most comprehensive spinal cord injury rehabilitation facilities.

Kevin was given an in-depth tour and explored how the center supports people not just through recovery, but through life after injury.

What he found was a shared vision with QLI and a reminder that advancing rehabilitation requires a willingness to look outward, learn from others, and bring those insights home.

At QLI, we're committed to being part of that global conversation, always learning, always evolving, and always focused on what's possible for our clients.

Thank you, Kevin, for being such an amazing ambassador for us!

The Autism Action Partnership is an organization empowering individuals on the Autism Spectrum by creating meaningful opportunities for connection, growth, and success while fostering an inclusive community.

QLI was honored to host their students and team members for a special CPR certification course, taught by QLI team members who are masters at CPR and building community.

Thank you, Tonya, for trusting us with your crew!

This week, we proudly recognize the incredible direct care team members who are the backbone of QLI's rehabilitation and care efforts. Whether offering a listening ear, sharing a laugh, or providing support through life's challenges, they offer more than care—they build lasting relationships that uplift, empower, and inspire hope.

As Chris Schlagenhauff, Vice President of East Campus & Residential Services, shares, "Hope isn't something we simply talk about at QLI—it's something our direct care team creates every day. Their compassion, dedication, and genuine connections with those we serve help people see what is possible beyond injury and adversity. Thank you for being mission-driven professionals, hope dealers, and life changers."

Thank you for choosing work that matters and for changing lives one day at a time!

Nearly a year ago, Mark Fitzpatrick was introduced to adaptive scuba diving by Gene Pache', a QLI volunteer and certified scuba diver. What began as trying something new quickly turned into a passion.

Since then, Mark has spent the last year training and preparing for the opportunity of a lifetime. Through a partnership between QLI and , he is ready to take the next step: an adaptive scuba diving trip to Bonaire with .

In just days, Mark will trade Nebraska for crystal-clear Caribbean waters and put a year's worth of hard work into action. Mark and Gene's relationship is about possibility, perseverance, and the power of dreaming big.

On Monday, we were graced with a lively, engaged, and bright group of third-year PT students from the The University of South Dakota.

The group was immersed in a wide variety of QLI therapeutic offerings, including smart home technology, wheelchair innovations and seat mapping, car transfers, dry needling, collaborative co-treating, and the importance of having a vibrant work culture.

We are grateful to all of our team members and clients who took time out with our visitors. And, we thank these remarkable students for spending a day of learning with us. Go Coyotes!

What if one of the most promising advances in rehabilitation isn't a new medication or device, but how we train the body to recover?

At QLI, we're not just using Blood Flow Restriction Therapy—we're studying it. Through ongoing research and clinical innovation, we're helping to lead the conversation about how BFR accelerates strength gains and improves rehabilitation outcomes after spinal cord injury.

The results are compelling, and we're just getting started.

Here’s further evidence that QLI doesn’t do traditional fundraisers.

We recently held an unforgettable evening centered around tailored cuisine curated by Chef David Olson and his grilling gurus from Live Fire Republic —Shawn, Brett, Casey from Man vs. Food, and Chan from LA.

This open-fire culinary experience also featured live entertainment by Nashville singer/songwriter, Davey Arnold, and a perfect night under the stars. We are so grateful for the guests who joined us to help propel QLI's expansion efforts forward.

Special thank you to our hosts, Patty & Cliff Karthauser, Laura & Tony Essay, & Paige & Brian Ritter for creating this lovely evening! And to QLI spinal cord injury rehabilitation client, Will DeLaet, for sharing his personal story of relentless pursuit of life following injury.

After a spinal cord injury left him with complex dysphagia, Jim arrived at QLI with a feeding tube and a newfound fear of swallowing. But through months of training and therapy with QLI’s Zoey Bertsch and speech-language pathology team, Jim regained his ability to safely eat solid foods again.

This victory for Jim is a reminder that swallowing rehabilitation is about more than food. It represents independence, connection, and getting back the elements of life that matter most.

Read the full story for a deeper clinical look at dysphagia rehabilitation, recovery, and the interdisciplinary approach behind Jim’s progress in the first comment below.
