Meet Eric Miller.

Eric Miller served 26 years in the U.S. Navy as a supply officer, a career that took him around the world and into some remarkable assignments.

His journey began at the University of Arizona through the Navy ROTC program. He went on to serve aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln and USS Saginaw during Desert Shield/Desert Storm, and later aboard the USS Oklahoma City, a nuclear-powered submarine.

His service took him to Africa, Singapore, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Central Asia. Following 9/11, he was also recalled to active duty and deployed throughout the Middle East.

One of the most meaningful assignments of his career came aboard the USS Oklahoma City. As a department head, Eric helped turn around a struggling supply operation and ensure the crew had what they needed to accomplish its mission. But when Eric looks back, he remembers the people as much as the accomplishments, especially his commanding officer, Captain Sneed.

“The crew was the #1 priority for him and it was for me as well. He really understood what was important. An incredible commanding officer.”

Eric’s military career also shaped his personal life. During his time in Jordan, he met his wife, and together they built a family and a life that has spanned cultures and continents.

Today, Eric has spent the past 10 years working at the Omaha VA hospital, helping support the processes that impact Veterans and their experience with VA health care.

Eric believes there is something unique about Veterans, a shared understanding that comes from serving alongside others and being part of something bigger than yourself. That connection is something he continues to see in the Veterans he serves today. For Eric, it’s another chapter in a life of service. The mission has changed, but the commitment to people remains.

Eric, thank you for 26 years of service to our nation and for continuing to serve Veterans here at the VA. 🇺🇸⚓
