At Blue Door Pediatric Therapy, we’re looking forward to a weekend filled with family time, sunshine, backyard BBQs, ball games, lake trips, and making memories with the people we love most. ☀️⚾🌭

As we enjoy the long weekend, we also take time to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We are incredibly grateful for their service and sacrifice. ❤️

This week we’re highlighting another amazing local adventure spot — the **Lee G. Simmons Wildlife Safari Park** right here near Omaha! 🚗🌿

A trip through the Safari Park is not only FUN, but also full of opportunities to encourage speech, language, sensory exploration, and occupational therapy skills while spending time together as a family. 💙

🗣️ **Speech & Language Ideas**
• Name and describe animals you see
• Practice animal sounds and action words (“run,” “fly,” “swim”)
• Work on answering WH questions:
➡️ “What animal is that?”
➡️ “Where is the bear hiding?”
➡️ “What color are the wolves?”
• Build longer sentences:
🦌 “The deer is eating grass.”
• Use AAC devices or picture boards to request favorite animals and activities

✋ **Occupational Therapy Ideas**
• Practice map following and direction skills
• Build endurance walking trails and exhibits

Here are some easy ways to encourage development during your next zoo adventure:

🗣️ **Speech & Language Ideas**
• Practice animal sounds and names
• Use describing words: “big elephant,” “striped zebra,” “sleepy lion”
• Work on requesting: “I want to see the penguins!”
• Ask WH-questions:

We are so thankful for our incredible Speech-Language Pathologists who work every day to help children find their voices, build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and connect with the world around them. From first words to AAC communication, feeding support to social language skills, our SLPs meet every child where they are with patience, creativity, compassion, and FUN. ✨

Behind the scenes at Blue Door Pediatric Therapy, there’s a whole lot happening beyond the therapy rooms — and Lauren helps keep it all running smoothly! 💙

From insurance verification and claim follow-ups to authorizations, billing questions, and keeping everything organized behind the scenes, Lauren wears many hats every single day. Between balancing life with kids, pets, busy schedules, and all the unexpected moments in between, she still works hard to make sure our families are supported and cared for.

Sometimes that means getting work done on the go — answering emails, handling billing tasks, and keeping things moving while waiting in the school pickup line, just like pictured. 🚗💻 Life doesn’t always pause, and neither does the work it takes to support a growing pediatric therapy clinic.

While you may not always see the billing side of things, it plays a huge role in helping our therapists focus on what matters most — the kids. We are so grateful for the dedication, flexibility, and heart Lauren brings to Blue Door every day!

A day in the life of a Speech-Language Pathologist looks a little different every day! 💙

While so much of our time is spent playing, connecting, and helping kids build communication skills, there is also a lot of behind-the-scenes advocacy happening for our families. One important part of that is completing peer-to-peer reviews with insurance companies to help children receive the therapy services they need and deserve.

These conversations allow our therapists to explain medical necessity, discuss progress, and advocate for continued support so kids can keep growing and thriving. ✨

Say hello to Miss Kaira! 🌟

Kaira Hammond is an Occupational Therapist who earned her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from Colorado State University in 2025 after completing her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in 2022. She has experience in outpatient pediatric therapy and enjoys working with children with a variety of diagnoses including Autism, ADHD, developmental delays, and sensory processing differences. 💙

Originally from Colorado, Kaira is excited to now call Omaha home! Outside of the clinic, she loves spending time with her two dachshunds, being outdoors, watching gymnastics, and trying new restaurants around town.

We are so excited to have Miss Kaira as part of the Blue Door family! ✨

Our speech and occupational therapy sessions will be filled with flower-inspired activities focused on growing communication, creativity, sensory exploration, fine motor skills, and confidence. From planting pretend gardens to colorful crafts and playful movement activities, we’re having fun while helping our kiddos continue to grow and thrive! 🌱💙
