On Maternity Leave until May 26th!

Felt right to finally announce this on her due date 😆
We welcomed Lowen Jane on February 17th!

Second time mom maternity leave thoughts:

-This time around feels much less overwhelming and way more relaxed. Approaching the lack of sleep with a different attitude and knowing that every phase is temporary has been a game changer for me. And of course lots of coffee.

-So grateful for all my amazing supports of my husband, family, friends, and neighbors and wouldn’t be able to survive without them.

-Sundown scaries hit me hard with my first baby and I haven’t had them at all this time. I attribute a lot of that to preventively upping my medication knowing that this is a difficult time due to healing, lack of sleep, and adjusting to life with two kiddos.

-Intrusive thoughts are common in postpartum and have definitely creeped in here and there, but remembering that thoughts are just that and they only have as much power as I give them.

-Things I’m loving: slow mornings, baby snuggles, watching my son be the sweetest big brother ☺️

-Things I’m not loving: night sweats, constant dishes, being pooped on.

Grateful for this time- it’s hard, but it is beautiful!

Collective Mind is ONE year old this week!

As I enter my 13th year of being a therapist, I am wrapping up my first year of private practice and I’m feeling grateful for so many things.

It has been an honor working alongside so many beautiful humans this last year and I am so thankful to have had a front row seat to watch my client’s growth and strength unfold.

I’m also feeling extra grateful for the flexibility that being my own boss has afforded me and all the daycare lunches, early pickups and extra hangs I’ve gotten with my little guy.

Thank you to all my amazing clients who have trusted me as their therapist to allow me to continue building this little dream of mine. 💚

Stay tuned tonight for an exciting giveaway announcement because you all deserve to treat yo self!!! 🫶🏼

✨A few of my go to therapy reads ✨

These are a couple of my favorite books that I both apply to my client sessions, as well as recommend clients read.

📕The Happiness Trap by Russ Harris- This book gives a ton of practical ways to shift the way we interact with and respond to our thoughts and emotions in order to reduce the distress these things cause us. I’ve read this book countless times and use so much of it in my personal life as well!

📗No Bad Parts by Richard Schwartz📗This book discusses new ways to approach parts of ourselves we don’t love such as our inner critic, perfectionist, or avoidant. It helps us to understand where these parts develop from, their protective nature and how to heal these parts with self compassion.

📘Attached by Amir Levine and Rachel Heller📘This book breaks down the three types of attachment styles and how/why they develop. It has practical tools for how to understand your own attachment style and how to bring this knowledge to relationships so they can thrive!

Maybe you know someone who needs one of these books for Christmas? 👀

As some of you might already know there will be many individuals and families in our community that will have to go without food assistance benefits for the upcoming month due to the government shutdown. I will be collecting food donations for the Omaha citywide food bank that is going on until next Wednesday, November 5th.

There is a tote to drop off donation items in the vestibule at for anyone who is interested and able to give. I will be dropping off items at one of the donation centers on November 5th so feel free to drop anything off from now until lunch time that day!

Helpful items include:
-non perishable canned goods with pop-top cans like meats, beans, vegetables and fruit
-high protein items like peanut butter and nuts
-kid friendly options such as fruit pouches, applesauce, granola bars, and shelf stable milk

Thank you to anyone who is able to help out!!

September is ***deawarenessmonth and I want to take some time to shed some light on this subject because it’s a tough thing we often don’t know how to talk about.

Su***de is the 11th leading cause of death in the United States. It is the second leading cause of death for individuals aged 10-34 years.

As a therapist these are some of the things I always want people to understand about su***de:

-Talking about it does not increase someone’s risk. It actually decreases it.

-Su***de is not selfish. When someone gets to the point where they decide to end their own life they are in so much pain this feels like the only way to end that pain.

-Su***de does not discriminate. It doesn’t care what your skin color is, how much money you make, how old you are, how loved you are, or how successful you are. It can impact anyone.

-Some people struggle with chronic suicidal thoughts. They may think about it daily, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they want to end their life or have a plan to do so. Over-reactions can be just as harmful as under-reacting. Sometimes just being there to listen and letting someone know you care about them is the most powerful thing you can do.

If you are someone who has struggled with suicidal thoughts please know this: you are not broken, you are not alone and your life matters. Stay; Because tomorrow needs you.

Let’s talk about therapy wins!

Wins aren’t always loud 🗣️ 📣 Showing up for yourself, challenging old habits and becoming aware are all things to be celebrated in therapy. Progress, not perfection! If finding the wins is hard, I’m here to point them out all along the way!

Struggling with emotions doesn’t mean you’re weak. It means you’re human. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is just whisper to yourself: ‘This is sadness. This is anger. This is grief.’ Name it to tame it. You are not your emotions, you are simply a person experience emotions. You’ve got this. 💪🏼

Introducing Sunny the weighted calming Dino! 🦖 ☺️

Sunny is our newest office addition available to cuddle any time during your therapy sessions. Weighted stuffed animals and other weighted tools such as blankets can help calm the nervous system, increase your brain’s feel good chemicals, and reduce stress hormones. Sunny’s extra weight can help you feel grounded and secure which can help when you’re feeling anxious or overwhelmed. Stuffed animals can also provide a comforting and nostalgic vibe, so don’t feel like this is just for the kiddos! Sensory input from a weighted stuffed animal can also help improve focus and regulate sensory overload.

Some of the other sensory items we have in the office are fidgets, soft blankets and candles. We hope all these items will help make therapy a safe and comforting environment that you look forward to coming to.

See you there!

Therapy isn’t about showing up as the perfect version of yourself — it’s about showing up as you are. Whether you’re feeling strong, vulnerable, messy, or somewhere in between, it’s all part of the journey. There’s no need for a mask, just honesty, courage, and a willingness to grow.
