Most people think saying sorry is enough. But a real apology requires way more than just those two words. It requires accountability, empathy, and a genuine commitment to change.

A healthy apology sounds like "I was wrong, I'm sorry" with no buts or excuses attached. It sounds like "I see how what I did affected you, and I take responsibility for that" instead of minimizing the impact. It sounds like "You don't have to forgive me right away, I just want you to know I hear you."

It means no excuses for what wasn't okay. It means understanding why you're upset and validating that you would feel the same way in their position. It means not just saying sorry but showing you that things will be different through sustained changed behavior.

It means thanking you for telling them how you feel instead of getting defensive. And it means choosing to own the mistake rather than protect their ego.

Real apologies rebuild trust. Fake ones just try to make the discomfort go away as quickly as possible.

Blue's puppy hair got shaved off today. Here is his before and after 😪 He looks so grown up now! He's such a sweet pup and is a great addition to therapy sessions while he is in training to hopefully become a certified therapy dog when he is old enough!
