Eighteen years ago today, my mom died.

I didn’t know it then, but that moment would eventually become the reason Infinite Avenues Counseling exists.

The pain that broke me became the purpose that built me.

Every person I help today carries a small piece of her legacy forward.

Some stories don’t end when a life does.

Eighteen years ago today, a drunk-driving crash changed two lives forever.

My mother and her boyfriend both died that day.

June 8, 2008, is not just a date on a calendar for me. It’s a reminder that one decision involving alcohol can have permanent consequences.

As a substance use counselor, I spend my days talking with people about risk, consequences, recovery, and change. But today, I’m speaking as a daughter.

Eighteen years later, the loss is still real. The people who die in these crashes aren’t statistics. They’re parents, children, siblings, partners, and friends. The people left behind carry that loss for the rest of their lives.

If you’re struggling with alcohol, if you’re thinking about getting behind the wheel after drinking, or if someone you love is, please know that one choice can affect countless lives.

Today I remember my mom, Tame, and her boyfriend, and the lives that ended far too soon.
