This is clementine. She is a paint gypsy vanner cross and she is a yearling, but will be turning 2 in June. She is my feral child, if you not working her, she is exactly that feral lol. But today she decided to be good and I absolutely love that.

Hey everybody! I hope you all have been taking advantage of the nice weather we have been having! I know I have been. Today and tomorrow I actually have off so I can work my own horses. Stay tuned for photos and videos of that. But in the meantime let’s take a look at the picture below!

Here we have a Clydesdale gelding. And he is in what is known as a stock. They are used to help trim their hooves and help maintain them in general for these big gentle giants. As here in the picture we are using it today to trim their hooves, if you look the back leg is tied up. This is so the hoof can keep still as I am trimming it. The problem with these gentle giants is that they do have a hard time balancing on 3 legs. And that’s why we use the stocks. They can literally lay into the straps and the sides of it, so they don’t have to bear their own weight. It’s just one giant support for the horse.

You do have to be careful for you can cause damage by accident while using this too! You also have to take the time to train them to be in there. The owners took the time to train them to go in and out and get used to all the straps before I even started working with them.

Hey everybody! Hope you all enjoyed the weather while it lasted because it’s about to get cold! But that doesn’t stop Nate and I from going out and trimming.

Today we got to trim 4 goats!
Most people are surprised to know that goats have to get trimmed. And this group of goats are actually on the same trim schedule as their horse friend. So they get trimmed every 6-8 weeks! Goats hooves are actually pretty easy to trim, so a lot of goat owners will actually do this themselves. But I got a few clients that rather have me do the trimming than doing it themselves. One main reason for that, is that even though the trimming of the hoof itself is easy. The process not so much. They tend to be pretty wiggly and like to kick out with their back hooves. And they don’t want to accidentally take too much, so they have us do it. Which we are very happy to do!

Hey everybody! I hope you all had a good Christmas or whatever you choose to celebrate.
Winter time is a little bit slower for trimming. Couple reasons: one being horses hooves don’t grow as fast as they do during the summer, so trims are spaced out a bit more. But also the holidays get crazy busy for everyone so the trims tend get pushed back a little during that time. So with this extra time it was a good opportunity to get Nate back out and learn how to trim some more.
Today he worked on Citrus. She is a blind mare and has a slight club hoof. Most people don’t notice it because they don’t know what they are looking for. So not only did he get to learn how to trim a club hoof, he also got to tell how to spot one and what to look out for. He also got the experience with working with a blind horse. Which citrus is a sweetheart and easy to work with.

Hey everyone! Hope everyone enjoyed the nice weather we had because now it’s going to get cold again. But you know who stays warm during the winter? Me when I am trimming, it’s a very hard job. One that my new apprentice is now getting to experience. He rode around with me for a few stops to get a feel and just watch how everything works and how I trim. Well today it was time for him to start trying it and learning what to do. For his first time ever he did an excellent job and I can’t wait to see where this takes him. My horse journey and my donkey, Donkey were absolute saints while and were patient while he is learning.

Hey everyone! It’s been a while since I posted on here and I figure it’s time to start getting more consistent.
So let’s talk about donkeys for a minute.
Today I got to trim some miniatures and some mammoth donkeys. My client has 17 total! We were talking about how donkeys get a bad reputation. That they are hard to work with and not very nice. But that can’t be farther from the truth. Donkeys are very intelligent and affectionate. Now I’m not saying there a not some donkeys out there who are not nice and hard to work with because I definitely have come across a few like that. But most I work with are like this mammoth donkey here named Jasper. Some of the others in his herd are just as friendly as he is to the point where it can get annoying at times lol. The ones that are not overally friendly are still affectionate but are more calm about it and more reserved.
All it takes is a little time, effort and some love.
