Please join us in welcoming Michael Castro, M.D., MSc to East Alabama Health!

Dr. Castro is a board-certified pathologist at East Alabama Medical Center. He earned his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine, where he also received his Master of Science in Biomedical Research. At VCU Health, he completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology, followed by fellowships in hematopathology and cytopathology.

Passionate about advancing patient care through accurate diagnoses and high-quality laboratory medicine, Dr. Castro is committed to helping guide treatment decisions and improve patient outcomes.

Our LPN Program allows students to earn their Licensed Practical Nursing degree in just three semesters while getting paid to attend classes and clinicals. East Alabama Health covers tuition, books and fees, and graduates are eligible to step into LPN roles after licensure. Classes are held at the East Alabama Health Education Center in Auburn, with clinical experiences at East Alabama Health facilities. Participants commit to working with East Alabama Health for two years following graduation.

💲 Free to attend

During the class, you’ll learn what to expect at prenatal visits, how your body changes throughout each trimester, healthy nutrition and weight gain during pregnancy, as well as important information about gestational diabetes and gestational hypertension.

Registration is required, and only the expectant mother needs to register. Each registrant may bring one support person at no additional cost.

The future of health care is bright! Our 2026 Pathways to Purpose Day Camps brought together students from across our community for an exciting, hands-on look at the many careers available in healthcare.

Throughout the summer, campers explored the hospital, practiced clinical skills, connected with healthcare professionals during career chats, participated in interactive team challenges, and gained valuable insight into what it’s like to work in the medical field.

We hope each student left feeling inspired, empowered, and excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.

Yesterday, we celebrated nine outstanding East Alabama Health employees who have officially earned their LPN pins: Kissimmee Abner, Brittany Ferrell Graham, Madison Gargus, Tiffany Gilder, Skyelar Goss, Dekela Hunter, Brittany Jones, Stephanie Pagan, and LaQuanza Smith.
