Opelousas General would like to send a warm welcome to Dr. Madelyn Lavergne as she joins the family medicine practice of Dr. Michael Burnell. Dr. Lavergne is dedicated to caring for patients at every stage of life, and we’re proud to have her serving our neighbors and families in Opelousas and the surrounding area.

Her scope of services includes preventative medicine and chronic disease management, pediatrics, women’s health, and geriatrics. Opelousas General is excited to announce Edi Comeaux as the featured speaker for the 2026 Paint the Town Pink luncheon.

A lifelong resident in Acadiana, Edi was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019. She worked through treatment and just when her personal journey had turned for the better, the worldwide pandemic disrupted life again. Edi’s resiliency is not just from her own cancer fight, but from walking closely through cancer battles alongside her late father and late husband.

Edi was honored as a 2026 Spirit of Hope Honoree by American Cancer Society and works tireless as a business owner and cancer survivor-advocate. We can’t wait for you to join us on October 30 to hear Edi explain how she’s “FINE” in her unique perspective on the ups and downs of life.

OGHS’s very own Dr. Julissa Braimoh was part of the panel at Women Who Lead Luncheon: Whole Woman, Whole Health — Leading with Wellness in Mind, hosted by St. Landry Chamber of Commerce.

Her obstetrics expertise added a valuable medical perspective to the conversation about prioritizing health and well-being while balancing the many personal and professional demands women face. We’re proud of Dr. Braimoh for sharing her time and expertise with the community, and grateful to St. Landry Chamber of Commerce for creating space for these important conversations.

Women leaders, remember that caring for yourself isn’t separate from leading well. It’s part of it.

To better assist our patients, the services and providers inside Opelousas General Rural Health Clinic are moving into a new office just 0.1 miles from their current location and will remain on the Opelousas General Main Campus. No patient appointments will be impacted by this move and our phone number stays the same, (337) 678-4285.

All services will open on Monday, October 19 at their new location inside Opelousas General Building K, 627 E. Prudhomme St., directly across from the Opelousas Catholic School baseball field.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to improve our clinical operations.
