One of the questions The Guardian asked Dr. Weiss before publishing its article focused on the clinical research behind stem cell therapy for autism—specifically, why North Florida Stem Cells references positive patient outcomes while a larger 2020 Duke University study did not meet its primary endpoints.
In this video, Dr. Weiss shares his perspective on:
• Why he believes it’s important to look at the full body of evidence—not just a single study.
• How he interprets the differences between the 2017 and 2020 Duke trials.
• Why he believes scientific discussion should include both the strengths and limitations of existing research.
Medical research is continually evolving, and informed decisions are best made by reviewing the available evidence, asking questions, and having open conversations with experienced physicians.

đź’° The Question Every Parent Asks: Is Stem Cell Therapy Covered by Insurance?
It's one of the first questions families ask—and it's one Dr. Eric Weiss answers honestly in his conversation on Misunderstood with Rachel Uchitel.
As both a physician and the father of a child on the autism spectrum, Dr. Weiss understands that families aren't just searching for hope—they're navigating financial decisions, insurance limitations, and wanting to make the best choices for their child.
In this episode, he explains why stem cell therapy for autism is not currently covered by insurance, what that means for families considering treatment, and why having transparent, evidence-based conversations is so important.
Dr. Weiss believes parents deserve honest answers—not false promises or confusing information—so they can make informed decisions with confidence.
🎙️ This is an important conversation for any family exploring stem cell therapy.

One of the most common questions I get is:
“Why do you prefer non-expanded stem cells?”
The answer comes down to quality, consistency, and my interpretation of the available science.
Non-expanded cells have not been grown through multiple passages in a laboratory before treatment. I believe preserving the cells in their original state helps maintain the characteristics that make them valuable for regenerative medicine.
Every physician has a responsibility to evaluate the research, understand the manufacturing process, and choose the products they believe are in their patients’ best interests.
Watch this video as I explain the reasoning behind that decision and what it means for patients considering stem cell therapy.

Before publishing their article, The Guardian asked Dr. Weiss to respond to one of the most serious criticisms facing stem cell clinics.
The question:
“Critics argue that treating autistic children with unapproved umbilical cord stem cells is experimentation on vulnerable children and profits from desperate families.”
Dr. Weiss answers this claim directly in this video.
As both a physician and a parent in the autism community, he believes families deserve honest conversations, scientific transparency, and the freedom to hear different perspectives before making medical decisions.
