You stop by to visit Mom after work.

The laundry is piling up. There is barely anything in the refrigerator. Her medication is still sitting on the counter, and when you ask if she took it, she says, “I think so.”

Then you notice she is moving a little slower than usual.

Maybe she mentions that she almost fell yesterday. Maybe she seems more confused, withdrawn, or tired.

And suddenly, you start wondering...

"Does my aging parent need more help than they are telling me?”

Sometimes the signs that a loved one needs extra support appear gradually and can be easy to miss.

Here are 5 signs to watch for:

1️⃣ Difficulty with daily tasks
Bathing, dressing, cooking, cleaning, or keeping up with the home may become harder.

2️⃣ Missed medications or appointments
Forgetting medication or missing important appointments can become a safety concern.

3️⃣ Changes in mood or memory

5️⃣ Poor nutrition or weight loss

A dementia-friendly home does not have to be complicated. Small, thoughtful changes can help reduce anxiety, prevent confusion, and make everyday life feel safer and more comfortable.

Use the 4 Fs as a simple guide:

1. Friendly
Speak gently, smile, use your loved one’s preferred name, and approach them from the front. A calm and respectful approach can help them feel secure.

2. Functional
Create a space that is easy to move through and understand.

✔️ Clear clutter from walkways
✔️ Remove loose rugs and other trip hazards
✔️ Add brighter lighting
✔️ Keep important items easy to find
✔️ Give simple choices instead of asking open-ended questions

3. Familiar
Familiar routines and belongings can bring comfort. Keep furniture in its usual place, display meaningful photos, prepare familiar meals, and play music they enjoy.

4. Forgiving
Not every task needs to be done perfectly. Avoid unnecessary corrections and focus on patience, reassurance, and meaningful connection.

𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀!

On 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟮𝟮, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, Elderly Savior Homecare had the opportunity to visit Sunrise Clinical Services and connect with members of the community.

It was a beautiful day, but let me tell you, it was HOT! Despite the heat, we enjoyed meeting wonderful people, sharing helpful information, and letting families know that compassionate home care support is available.

Now, I have to be honest with you, guys. I am not a professional cameraman! I was trying to keep the camera steady, find the right angles, capture the important moments, and survive the heat at the same time. I did my best! 😂

The picture may not have perfect angles or professional shots, but it captures something more meaningful: a real day filled with effort, laughter, conversations, and community connections.

Sometimes, the best memories are not perfectly planned or professionally recorded. They are the honest moments that remind us how important it is to show up, connect, and support one another.
