☀️🔥 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗢𝗣𝗩𝗠𝗖 🔥☀️
With Heat Advisories and Extreme Heat Warnings in effect this week, the risk of heat stroke in pets is dangerously high. Heat stroke is a life-threatening emergency, and unfortunately, we see far too many cases during extreme weather.
🐶 𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲. When temperatures climb above 80°F, outdoor time should be limited to quick bathroom breaks only.
🏖️ 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗽 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀, 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸𝘀, 𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀' 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁. Flat-faced (brachycephalic) breeds—such as Bulldogs, Pugs, and French Bulldogs—as well as senior pets, overweight pets, and those with heart or respiratory disease are especially vulnerable.
🌅 If your dog needs exercise, 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘁, when temperatures are much cooler.
🐾 Before heading outside, 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱 for 7 seconds. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your pet's paws.
💦 If your dog enjoys swimming and has safe access to a pool or other pet-friendly body of water, it's a great way to help them cool off.
