Back-to-School Backpack Check 🎒✅
September means back-to-school season, but it shouldn’t mean back pain for your student.
A backpack that’s too heavy, worn incorrectly, or not properly adjusted can put extra stress on the neck, shoulders, and back. Over time, this can contribute to poor posture, muscle strain, and discomfort during the school day.
Here are a few quick backpack tips to help keep your child comfortable:
🎒 Keep it light: A backpack should generally be no more than about 10–15% of a child’s body weight.
💪 Use both straps: Wearing a backpack on one shoulder can create uneven stress on the body.
📏 Adjust the fit: The backpack should sit close to the body and rest around the middle of the back.
🧹 Clean it out regularly: Remove unnecessary books, papers, and items that add extra weight.
A healthy spine starts with healthy habits early. If your child is experiencing back pain, neck pain, shoulder discomfort, or posture concerns, our team at Bushnell PT is here to help.
