Walker Sanderson Funeral Home & Crematory is a full-service funeral home. It is common to put on a funeral service that includes a viewing where the deceased is presented in an open casket so that people can say their final goodbyes. Then, the funeral follows, where the casket is also present. Then graveside ceremonies are held with an affordable burial service. This multiple-event funeral service is common but not required. Instead, choose whichever parts that you deem necessary for your loved one. Cremation services can also be simple by choosing direct cremation without a service. Or you can meet with your loved ones after cremation by selecting cremation with memorial service. Alternatively, life celebrations are casual and fun, focusing on the good memories and talents of the deceased. A life celebration can be held outside with music, dancing, and open-mic memory sharing. You can work with the funeral planning team to make the service memorable and comforting with every format. Walker Sanderson Funeral Home & Crematory is happy to serve those in Orem, Provo, Vineyard, Pleasant Grove, Lindon, and Springville. Suellen was born December 31, 1940, in Lubbock, Texas, daughter of William Venable Stone and Violette Marie Beaudreau. She lived in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Colorado while growing up and graduated high school in Grand Junction, Colorado, in 1959. Suellen considered her greatest achievement to be her role as a mother to her children and Oma to her grandchildren, with whom she shared her love of learning and wonder at the beauty of God’s world—every single rock and leaf. She was an avid genealogist starting in high school, compiling and sharing records of both her own family and, through her missionary work for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and contributions to the Stake Family History Center, which she established, helping the families of countless others. Ada Stephens

Ada Ellen McCurry “Granny” Stephens was born in Collbran, Colorado, on August 9, 1939, to Elbert Sidney McCurry and Mary Elizabeth Pattee. She passed away from kidney failure on May 30, 2026, at the age of 86 in the home of her son, Berin Stephens, in Orem, Utah.

Ada grew up on a ranch near Collbran and loved her time growing up as a real cowgirl. She loved her horses, pigs, and goats and spent as much time exploring the outdoors as she could. She had fond memories of watching the cows and camping on the upper pasture near the McCurry Reservoir. After she graduated from Plateau Valley High School in 1958, she and a friend took a trip up to Alaska to spend the summer. She flew into Anchorage shortly after it was announced that the Alaska Territory would become the 49th state. While there, she met Ronald William Stephens and they soon started dating. After she returned to Collbran, Ron flew down to Colorado and they were married on April 21, 1959.

They settled in Peters Creek, Alaska, in the Chugiak area. Ron owned and operated a Chevron station and an automotive repair shop and later added a grocery store, which they named ‘Granny's and Grumpy's’. Ada helped her husband run the business by doing the bookkeeping and ordering the groceries and supplies.

They had two sons, Von Dean Stephens, who passed away in 2024 due to Multiple Sclerosis, and Berin Lee Stephens. Throughout most of his life, Ron Stephens struggled against Hodgkin's Disease and the side effects of the treatments. He passed away in 1993 from congestive heart failure.

On August 9th, 1997, Ada married Leland Nielse Welsh, another long-time Alaska resident. The two of them lived in Peters Creek and enjoyed visiting family in the lower 48 in their motor home and going hunting in Alaska.

When Ada first moved to Alaska, she struggled with being so far from Colorado. Her mother-in-law, Cleda Stephens, gave her a plaque that said, 'Bloom Where You Are Planted'. Ada took it to heart. After that, she fell in love with Alaska and became an avid collector of Alaskan art. She also loved gardening and growing flowers during the summer. Most of all, though, she loved her nine grandchildren and enjoyed spoiling them as often as possible. When she first became a grandmother, she took on the title 'Granny' and it became her identity for the rest of her life.

Even though she was four feet, eleven and a half inches tall, she was a tough and feisty lady. At the same time, she was tenderhearted and extremely charitable, always willing to help those in need. She was full of energy and enthusiasm and had a snarky wit. Her sense of humor was contagious as well, always cheering up those around her by making them laugh.

Ada is survived by her husband, Leland Welsh, and her son, Berin Stephens (wife Vicky Stephens). She also leaves behind her nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She has been preceded in death by her first husband, Ronald Stephens, and her son, Von Stephens.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 12th, 2026, at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building located at 80 S 280 E in Orem, Utah. A graveside service and the burial will be on Saturday, June 13th, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Cedar Crest Cemetery in Collbran, Colorado.

Wayne Pinegar Andrus

Wayne Pinegar Andrus, 60, passed away on May 28, 2026, in Timpanogos Hospital in Orem, Utah. Wayne was born December 17, 1965, in Payson, Utah, the ninth child and seventh son of Elden and Lucille Andrus. Wayne grew up in a home filled with a love of music, a love of the gospel, and a love of sports. It is an understatement to say Wayne was athletic. He grew up swimming, wrestling and playing football, baseball, and basketball. In junior high and high school, he played many of these sports competitively. He was an avid (and often loud) viewer of sports, especially BYU football and the Utah Jazz games. Wayne played the cello in the Utah Valley Youth Orchestra. He had a firm and unwavering testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and served a mission for Tdhe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Hawaii, Honolulu Mission. He was active in church and served in many different capacities.

Wayne graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1984. In 1990, he graduated from Utah Valley Community College with an A.S. in General Studies. He attended Southern Utah State College (now SUU), where he met his wife, Annette Buhler. They married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 22, 1991. In June of 1991, Wayne graduated from Southern Utah University with a B.S. in Physical Education, and minors in Military Science and Biology. That same day, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army. After attending Officer Basic Course in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, Wayne returned to SUU to complete his teaching certificate in P.E. and Biology, graduating with a second B.S. in 1994. The following year, he earned his certification in Special Education from Utah State University. Wayne was a hard-working and dedicated teacher. He especially enjoyed teaching science. He loved reaching struggling students and getting them excited about learning. He assisted many of his students in mastering a subject, enabling them to take “regular ed” classes. He taught for 31 years in three states: Utah, California, and Wyoming. He also spent 3 years as Director of Special Education for Daggett School District.

Wayne proudly served in the Utah Army National Guard (Field Artillery). When he moved to California in 2001, he transferred to the California Army National Guard. He was the only captain who had three commands as a captain: Charlie Company of 2/222FA in Beaver, Utah; as commander over security at a California Army National Guard airport in Fresno California; then as commander over security at Beale AFB. He received many awards for his service. In 2012, he retired from the Army National Guard with 23 years of service.

Above all else, Wayne was a family man. He worked very hard to provide for his large family, balancing the demands of teaching with the responsibilities of National Guard service. He and his wife were the parents of six children: three “homemade” and three adopted from foster care. Wayne was a dedicated and loving father and grandfather, who was as at home with a small child sleeping on his lap as with debating scientific theory with his older children.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Denille Andrus and Diane Blackham, brother Ron, parents-in-law, 3 sisters-in-law, brother-in law, 3 nephews, and a niece. Survived by his wife of 35 years, Annette; his children: Tristan (Marilyn), Lark Earl (Jesse), Jordan, Bronwyn, Robert, and Serena, three grandchildren; his brothers: Doug (Marianne), Stansbury Park; Jake (Barbara), American Fork; Jon (Patricia), Pleasant Grove; Steve, Sparks, Nevada; and Boyd, Florida; brother-in-law David Blackham, Mt. Pleasant; many nieces and nephews.

There will be a viewing Sunday, June 7, from 4:00-6:00 at Walker-Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, Utah. On Monday, June 8, there will be a second viewing from 10:30-11:30 at Northridge Second Ward, 1875 North 280 West, Orem, Utah, followed by the funeral service at noon. Interment will take place at Orem City Cemetery.

Debara Jane Rule

Debara Jane Cook Rule, 73, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, after a brief battle with ovarian cancer.

Debi was born in Nampa, Idaho on February 8, 1953 to Douglas Merlin Cook and Barbara Hess Cook. She was raised on her family’s farm, where she learned the value of hard work by helping in the apple orchard, sorting eggs, and tending chickens.

Debi graduated from Nampa High School in 1971 and attended Links School of Business. She married Steve Rule in the Manti Utah Temple in 1974. They made their home in Middleton, Idaho, where Debi spent the next 28 years as a dedicated homemaker and devoted mother to their five children. After the marriage ended in 2003, she continued to place her family at the center of her life.

Debi’s children and fifteen grandchildren were the greatest joy of her life. She poured her heart into loving, teaching, encouraging, and supporting them, and treasured every moment spent with her family.

In 2004, Debi embraced life’s changes with her characteristic strength and determination. She returned to school and earned her certification as a medical coder. She then moved to Utah and began a rewarding career at the BYU Student Health Center, where she worked until her retirement in 2015. She served others generously, offered love without condition, and strove to follow the Savior's example. She was a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ.

She was an incredible cook, artist, gardener, and genealogist. She also loved traveling, music, playing games, teaching and learning.

In 2026, Debi learned that she had ovarian cancer. Despite the difficulty of her diagnosis, she faced the future with the same exceptional courage and unwavering faith that characterized her life. She deeply wished to remain with her children and grandchildren so she could watch them grow, celebrate their accomplishments, and share in their lives. However, she also looked forward to a joyful reunion with her parents, grandparents, and brothers who had gone before her. Her faith gave her peace, and she felt prepared to meet her Maker.

Debi was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas and Barbara Cook, and her brothers, Monte Cook and Bruce Cook. She is survived by her sisters, Brenda Shannon and Becky Cook; her five children, Tyson (Erin) Rule, Joe (Marie) Rule, Troy (Amy) Rule, Blake (Britney) Rule, and Emily (Spencer) Walker; and her 15 beloved grandchildren.
