Yesterday, I felt this pull to get outside. To get near water, unplug completely and let myself just be.
Just me, the Earth, a journal, some paints, peaches, watermelon, and a rock by the springs.
Ohhh and did I receive baby!
At one point, two little boys ran over to me.
“What are you doing?”
“What are you painting?”
Followed by about 47 more questions 😂 before they jumped right back into the fresh water and carried on with their day.
Later, a group of teenagers walked by, and one of the girls stopped and said something like,“You’re just so cute. I love that you’re just sitting here painting and journaling and being.”
Such a tiny interactions but it stayed with me, because what if we allowed ourselves to be witnessed by the world like that?
Just authentically existing in a moment that feels good to us.
What if we let ourselves melt into the mundane long enough to actually receive what life is trying to show us?
I grabbed my snorkel and floated my way from the top of the springs down through the water. I watched the fish. Talked to strangers. Shared little bits of advice with people visiting the springs. Had these tiny, beautiful micro connections with humans I’ll probably never see again.
And while I was swimming, I prayed about a few things that have been sitting heavily on my heart. Not long after, I looked down through my goggles and found a dollar sitting at the bottom of the spring, tucked in the sand.
Maybe God, the Earth, life, the Universe…whatever language feels true to you is speaking all the time.
Sometimes the medicine for getting out of a funk are doing the simple things that bring you back to yourself.
For me, that looks like getting outside.
Submerging myself in water, seeing life through goggles, painting on a rock, eating fruit in the sunshine, praying while I swim, & remembering that I am allowed to receive.
There is so much life happening around us that we miss when we are constantly plugged into somewhere else.
Maybe you don’t need to find the message today.
Maybe you just need to put the phone down long enough to let life find you.
