Summer is made for sunshine and time outside — and we’re sharing a few simple precautions to help you stay safe and enjoy every moment. As warmer weather brings more people outdoors, emergency rooms often see more injuries and illnesses related to heat, overexertion and recreational activities.

As part of HCA Healthcare, HCA Florida Lake City Hospital is connected to a broader network of care spanning 19 states and the U.K., making it easier to get the care you need when and where you need it. Taking a moment to plan ahead can help you know where to go for timely treatment.

Family health history can be a powerful tool for understanding your health. Knowing which conditions run in your family and sharing that information with your doctor — can help guide conversations about screenings, prevention and care.

Start with a few simple questions, then keep the information somewhere easy to update and bring to appointments.

🩺 Preventive care can help you stay on top of your health — even when you feel fine. This Men’s Health Month, consider making routine screenings part of your regular health routine. Screenings can help detect potential health issues early, when they may be easier to treat.

Not sure which screenings may be right for you? Explore five types of preventive health screenings and talk with your doctor about what’s recommended for your age, health history and needs: https://bit.ly/4osvUVN

Pain in your legs with physical activity? Cramping in your calves? It may be more than just fatigue.

(PAD) affects blood flow to the legs and feet — and it’s more common than you might think. Because symptoms can be mild or easy to mistake for something else, PAD often goes undiagnosed. Over time, reduced blood flow can lead to more serious issues if it’s not addressed.

The good news: PAD can often be managed with the right care. Treatment may include lifestyle changes, medication or procedures to help improve circulation.

➡️ If something doesn’t feel right or you think you may be at risk, talk to your primary care doctor. They may refer you to a specialist for further evaluation. Find a doctor near you: https://bit.ly/4vFXEZp

We recently honored six members of the UCF Lake Nona Hospital family, including one furry four-legged friend, with our 2026 Awards of Distinction. We are grateful for their dedication, compassion, and service to our patients, colleagues, and community.

Congratulations to our Frist Humanitarian Award recipients, Dr. Michelle Wallen (Physician award), Maribel Bonilla Viana (Colleague award) and Peggy Sebastian & Harry (Volunteer award), and to our Excellence in Nursing Award recipients, Annette Davis, Compassionate Nurse, and Marie Nguyen, Mentoring Nurse.

The Frist Humanitarian Award is the highest honor given by HCA Healthcare, recognizing extraordinary individuals who go above and beyond in their volunteer and humanitarian efforts. Established in 1971, it is named after HCA's co-founder, Dr. Thomas F. Frist, Sr., to honor his legacy of philanthropic care.

At HCA Florida Poinciana Hospital, we believe in elevating care by elevating each other — and our patient care technicians (PCTs) bring that to life every day.

During PCT Week, we proudly celebrate our PCTs whose work makes a meaningful impact across HCA Healthcare — a network that supports approximately 47 million patient encounters each year.

PCTs are integral members of the care team, delivering hands-on care that directly supports patient outcomes. From assisting with mobility, personal care and meals to collaborating continuously with nurses and interdisciplinary teams, PCTs contribute essential clinical and compassionate care throughout the day. Their role reflects both technical skill and a commitment to teamwork, making them a foundational part of high-quality patient care.

To our PCTs, thank you for the care, comfort and support you bring to patients and colleagues alike.

Raising the bar: Congratulations Katerina Kulik, Medical Staff Services Director!

Katerina Kulik recently completed HCA Healthcare’s Leadership Engagement & Development (LEAD) program. Designed to provide a well-rounded and comprehensive foundation across the business side of healthcare, the LEAD program helps HCA Healthcare leaders like Katerina prepare to assume operational and analytical leadership roles across the organization.
“The HCA Healthcare LEAD program was a perfect step to dive deeper and develop myself as a leader,” Katerina said. “Not only did I experienced real life examples of high stakes scenarios leaders encounter in a variety of roles across the enterprise, it was also an eye opener about my leadership skills and personality and things I can improve upon to become a better leader. I am very grateful for this opportunity to connect with other HCA Healthcare leaders and learn from each other.”
HCA Healthcare makes a positive impact beyond any other organization in healthcare by providing education, technology and resources that support our colleagues in their professional development. Our investments in the Leadership Development Institute, including the LEAD program, reflect our belief that quality starts with our people.
