More clarity in every toxicology report.

This month we're rolling out reporting enhancements designed to make ordering and result review more intuitive for your practice. Same high-quality testing you rely on, presented so it's easier to read and act on.

What's new:

Alcohol reporting now starts with ethyl sulfate (EtS) and automatically reflexes to ethyl glucuronide (EtG) when EtS is detected, giving you fuller context on alcohol exposure.

Amphetamine and methamphetamine now report in their own standalone category, separate from illicit substances, which better reflects real-world prescribing.

Clearer analyte names for faster, more confident review.

Suspect Cyclospora? A routine stool test can miss it.

Cyclosporiasis cases are climbing across the country this summer, and the timing matters for anyone seeing GI complaints. Here's the catch: a standard ova and parasite exam does not reliably detect Cyclospora cayetanensis. The parasite sheds on and off, even in patients with significant diarrhea, and many GI PCR panels don't include it as a target.

If a patient has prolonged or relapsing watery diarrhea, fatigue, cramping, and appetite loss lasting more than a few days, especially with recent fresh-produce exposure, it's worth testing specifically for Cyclospora.

Genesis offers Cyclospora testing by f***l swab within the parasite subsection of our gastric pathogen menu, so it's easy to include when the clinical picture fits. Peak season runs through the end of August.

Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome has a 35% case fatality rate — and most clinicians will only see it once or twice in a career.

That makes early recognition everything.

The diagnostic window is narrow. Initial symptoms — fever, fatigue, myalgia — are indistinguishable from influenza. By the time cardiopulmonary compromise begins, the margin for intervention has already narrowed significantly.

Key clinical considerations for providers:

→ Order IgM serology at first suspicion — don't wait for respiratory deterioration

→ HPS is a nationally notifiable condition — state health departments must be contacted immediately

→ Sin Nombre virus accounts for the majority of U.S. cases; risk is concentrated in the western and southwestern states

→ Occupational and environmental exposure history is critical — rodent contact is the primary transmission route
