Holistic Physical Therapy is a locally owned and independent private practice. Our physical therapist owned facility means that not only do we value the care that is being administered to our patients but that we can help each individual heal in the best case scenario possible with individualized attention. This individualized attention often leads to less visits and a quicker recovery. In Ohio, a

s in many other states, you have the right to see a physical therapist without a prescription from your physician. This is called Direct Access, and allows you to seek treatment for your condition today, get better faster, spend less money, feel great and return to the activities you enjoy. However, if you have been seeing another healthcare practitioner, we welcome any and all information that would help to develop your individualized and best treatment plan. Physical Therapists are great at noticing red flags and knowing when to refer back out to another health care practitioner if more information might be needed to progress the healing. The process of healing is an equal partnership between the health care practitioner and the patient with the goal of leading the patient to understand and overcome any limiting health issues getting in the way to being his or her best self.

New Study: While the environmental and health harm of pesticides are well-known, many people ask: Can agriculture thrive without them? The answer, backed by a groundbreaking 10-year study in France, is a resounding YES. And the benefits extend far beyond mere feasibility. Although some pesticide-free systems yields were below those of conventional farming, some reached equivalent levels or even exceeded them. Moreover, estimated income was twice, three times or more the French national minimum wage in 80% of the monitored arable land. This 10-year study, led by France’s national agronomic and environment research institute INRAE, analyzed nine farming systems - including arable and mixed farming - across various regions of France. The trials were designed collaboratively with farmers and agricultural advisers within experimental units. They used an approach based on agroecological crop protection principles (prevention of the diseases, reliance on plant biodiversity and improvement or protection of soil health), while mineral fertilizers were allowed. The goal was to use zero pesticides while reducing biotic stress (caused by pests, fungi and weeds), with rotations that varied in duration from 5 to 9 years. Even biological pesticides were not used. Under certain conditions, pesticide-free crops matched or even surpassed conventional yields. At the Auzeville farm, pesticide-free wheat production exceeded conventional production in 2018, reaching 500 g/m² whilst the conventional version remained at around 400 g/m². The same applies to the production of other crops. For example, pesticide-free durum wheat production reached conventional levels in 2017, while pesticide-free triticale production surpassed conventional production in 2016 and 2019. Yield objectives were achieved in many site-years, even for crops whose yield performance is considered to be highly dependent on pesticides, such as rapeseed, sugar beet, and potato.

We don't need toxic pesticides. Anyone that's telling you that our farms and food systems would collapse without toxic chemicals is either misinformed or is outright lying to you.

Vermont is the first state in the U.S. to ban paraquat, a pesticide that is banned in many other developed countries.

Gov. Phil Scott signed a state bill into law in May that bans the use or sale of paraquat starting Nov. 1.

Studies have linked paraquat to an increased risk of Parkinson’s disease, a neurodegenerative disease that is on the rise. People who apply paraquat are more than twice as likely to develop Parkinson’s.

Nationwide, about 11 to 17 million pounds of paraquat are sprayed annually, according to data from the U.S. Geological Survey.

I enjoyed continuing my education this month in CranioSacral therapy working with infants and children. Early recognition and intervention is so powerful for a balanced nervous system and CranioSacral therapy can help. Most important is that we also worked with the parents and caregivers to facilitate a balanced nervous system. A happy and regulated parent helps to co-regulate the child. 😌 Upledger Institute International

Our virome and gut microbiome consist of microbes, viruses, parasites (i know, yuck) and more that live in harmony inside us. Sometimes they get out of balance. That’s illness. The key is to figure out why - to search upstream. Not to give medicine to suppress symptoms. Instead, to guide our body with other therapies to find that balance again. Start with food, sleep, exercise, stress management, and psycho emotional health. Consider environmental influences such as toxins, or mold and imbalance of minerals. And consider our relationship to nature of which it is so intertwined that if we ignore or distance ourselves from it we most likely can feel ill. So yes, go hug a tree 🌳.

Yesterday the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs held a very important hearing on early treatment for COVID-19 titled, "Early Outpatient Treatment: An Essential Part of a COVID-19 Solution." I will share a link with highlights of the hearing, below. The remarkable and highly credentialed physicians who testified share the perspective--that early outpatient treatment for COVID-19 would help to prevent many deaths and would help control or prevent the worst possible symptoms of the illness in many cases. These physicians are all members of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS).

I’ve been off social media A LOT!! these days. Feel much better doing that but hopped on briefly and saw the challenge. Basically, it’s a challenge staying off social media and listening to our own internal voice and not being swayed by media. I challenge all women I know to THAT challenge!!

How can we learn, listen and digest new exercises, concepts, or movements to start a healing process unless our nervous systems are able to feel safe and in a receptive learning state? I’ve learned over 30 years of practice that it is almost impossible unless the nervous system is on board. Originally I would label myself as an “orthopedic & sports medicine” physical therapist, but over the past 10 years I’ve fallen in love with the amazing nervous system as well thanks to my holistic studies with & the work of . As a result, exercises that regulate the nervous system are included in most if not all sessions at Holistic Physical Therapy ☺️

In this episode, Dr. David Hanscom continues his discussion with professor of psychiatry and neuroscientist Stephen Porges about the polyvagal theory. Dr. Porges explains the transformative power of feeling safe to keep us healthy. Using clinical examples from the treatment of pain and trauma, he il...
