Understanding Voluntary vs. Involuntary Mental Health Treatment in Florida
Many people don't realize that in Florida, you don't have to wait until a crisis becomes an emergency to seek help.
Voluntary Admission allows individuals to seek inpatient mental health treatment on their own when they recognize they are struggling and need support. By choosing treatment voluntarily, patients can begin receiving care before their symptoms worsen.
Involuntary Admission (Baker Act) may occur when a person is experiencing a mental health crisis and is believed to be a danger to themselves, a danger to others or unable to care for themselves due to their mental illness. This process allows for an evaluation to determine the appropriate level of care.
If you or a loved one are experiencing mental health challenges, seeking help early can make a significant difference. You do not have to wait until a situation reaches the level of a Baker Act.
At UBC, our team is available 24/7 to provide confidential mental health assessments and help determine the most appropriate level of care.
