Somewhere along the way, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” became less about dreams and more about salaries, titles, and success.

But maybe our younger selves had it right. ❤️

We wanted to help.
We wanted to make a difference.
We wanted to make people feel safe.

And now, as therapists, we get to turn that childhood dream into a purpose helping children feel seen, understood, supported, and safe enough to grow.

Here’s to never forgetting the little kid who dreamed of making a difference. ✨

🐠 Hi! It’s Dory! 👋💙

Today for Terminology Tuesday, we’re learning a new word: ECHOLALIA! 💬

Sometimes I repeat words or phrases I’ve heard before. You might think I’m just repeating myself… but repetition can actually have a purpose!

It can help a child process language, practice communication, express emotions, communicate a need, or feel regulated. 🧠💛
Sometimes the words are repeated right away, and sometimes they come back much later. The important part is looking at the meaning behind the repetition.
So next time you hear a little one repeating something, get curious:
💭 “What might they be trying to communicate?”
Because sometimes… repetition is communication. 💙
🐠 Just keep listening, just keep connecting!
