The Institute for Mobility and Longevity was proud to have both our founder, Dr William Andrew Hodge, and our Ortho Florida Adult Reconstruction Fellow, Dr. Luciano Ramires, present at FL OrthoCon 2026 in Orlando.

Dr. Hodge shared findings from the SciMo Study and discussed the role of biomechanical footwear modifications in treating knee osteoarthritis pain during Clinical Track Session 1.

Dr. Ramires presented his research, “In Vivo Fluoroscopic Analysis of a New TKA Design,” as part of the Fellows Research Competition and earned an impressive 3rd-place finish.

We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing conversation around mobility, innovation, and advancing orthopaedic patient care. Congratulations to Dr. Ramires on this outstanding achievement, and thank you to the Florida Orthopaedic Society for hosting another excellent meeting.

This morning, Dr William Andrew Hodge had the opportunity to present at FL OrthoCon 2026 during Clinical Track Session 1.

His presentation, “Treating Knee Osteoarthritis Pain with Biomechanical Modifications of Footwear,” shared insights from the SciMo Study conducted through the Institute for Mobility and Longevity.

As knee osteoarthritis continues to affect so many patients, it was encouraging hear him discuss practical, evidence-based approaches that may help improve mobility, reduce pain, and support long-term quality of life.

We’re looking forward to attending Florida Orthopaedic Society's FL OrthoCon 2026 in Orlando this week and spending time with colleagues from around the state.

Our founder, Dr William Andrew Hodge be speaking on treating knee osteoarthritis pain through biomechanical modifications of footwear — a topic I’ve enjoyed continuing to study and discuss as we look for practical ways to help patients stay active and mobile.

One of the best parts of meetings like this is the conversations outside the lecture hall. If you’re attending, we'd enjoy catching up! Find us for coffee between sessions.

One of the highlights of the IML fellowship is the opportunity to attend national conferences and present research to the broader orthopedic community.

Great hearing Arnold Schwarzenegger speak today in his role as Chief Movement Officer for Zimmer Biomet. His message resonated strongly from an orthopedic perspective: movement is medicine.

He spoke about overcoming failure, staying committed to a clear vision, and the power of teamwork. Just as important was his focus on prevention — educating people on protecting their joints, avoiding injury, and taking ownership of their health.

A great reminder that keeping people moving is one of the most powerful things we can do in medicine!

I'm at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) annual meeting in New Orleans this week. Today, I attended "Future of Orthopedics". I was fortunate to hear some great speeches from the CEOs of 4 of the largest medical technology manufacturers: Zimmer Biomet, DePuy Synthes, Smith+Nephew and Stryker Orthopaedic Instruments.

We’re excited to be back at the AAOS Annual Meeting 2026 in New Orleans, which is one of the best places to catch up on research and education in the orthopedic world.

Our founder, Dr William Andrew Hodge, says that "it’s always valuable to connect with surgeons at every stage of their careers, from seasoned professors to the newest trainees. There’s something to learn at every level, and many of the presenters are the very researchers behind the data. It’s a unique opportunity to have direct conversations with the people who designed the studies, gathered the information, and are advancing the field firsthand."

Our own research focuses primarily on clinical outcomes, carefully measuring how our patients are doing and identifying ways to continually improve their results. We’re also evaluating emerging surgical technologies that can help surgeons deliver more precise, efficient care while enhancing the overall patient experience.

W. Andrew Hodge, M.D, MBA is an internationally acclaimed orthopedic surgeon specializing in knee and hip surgery and bioengineering research. He holds several U.S. patents on orthopedic implants & surgical techniques in addition to publishing over 60 articles in prominent medical journals. Dr. Hodge has been recognized for his accomplishments on CNN News, the Discovery Channel, and Science Magazine. He was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for Medicine 2009 for his international surgical contributions (This award has been given to six U.S. Presidents as well as multiple Nobel Prize winners).

During Dr. Hodge’s decade of time spent in Boston’s academic environment, he maintained appointments at Harvard University, Harvard Medical School, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He designed and directed MGH's BioMotion Research Laboratory for studying human motion and rehabilitation. Dr. Hodge then co-founded Palm Beach Orthopedic Institute & The Institute for Mobility and Longevity (www.institue-mobility-longevity.org), a non-profit organization that supports orthopedic research and education, now located at Gardner Orthopedics in Ft Myers, FL. He has also served as Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at several centers in the U.S., Saudi Arabia, and Dubai. Dr. Hodge recently completed his MBA Degree in Healthcare Policy at Boston's Brandeis University.

Currently, Dr. Hodge has returned to Florida, now in the Tampa Bay area with James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital, where he is bringing new treatments and technologies to patients with arthritis and failed joint replacement. Dr. Hodge is also very active in Advanced Treatments of Prosthetic Joint Infections, which can be more efficient in saving morbidity in addition to time and money.
