My annual post until something actually changes. ✌🏻
…Can I add knowing my kids will be safe at schools, shopping malls & grocery stores to this list?
What would you add??
Every day I’m eternally grateful for the single mom who raised me..
And my children are the greatest gifts I could’ve ever asked for.
I don’t mean to sound ungrateful because I really do love the recognition on Mother’s Day…and this year I was showered with love from my amazing husband and sons who I love more than anything on this planet.
One day of acknowledgment per year doesn’t even come close to making up for the over $100,000 I’ve spent on childbirth, childcare, and my kids’ healthcare in the last 10 years (that’s a VERY conservative estimate).
So that recent 5k incentive to have a child feels out of touch and downright insulting.
I recognize that I’m very privileged to have children at all, and to be able to afford having children, and that I’ve had so much help from family and only needed to cover part time day care.
If cost (particularly childcare and healthcare) was not an issue, I would have LOVED to have two more and part of me still grieves that it just wasn’t an option.
I hope that my sons understand the privilege we have.
I hope we can raise them to see the importance of supporting mothers.
Feels like I’m shouting into the void some days but I hope our country can get its priorities straight.
To all those in a season of waiting for motherhood, please know I am fighting for you to have the future motherhood you deserve.
P.S. fun fact: Bulgaria has one of the best maternity leave policies, covering 410 days of leave and 90% of the employee’s salary
