Dr. Kevin Biese and Dr. Jen Bunn, along with three 2025 UWO Kinesiology graduates, recently published a paper in the Strength and Conditioning Journal. The paper outlines a theoretical model for training highly specialized female volleyball athletes. The authors advise coaches, athletic trainers, and strength and conditioning coaches to approach the volleyball season as a full calendar season instead of two separate seasons (the high school and club seasons). This approach allows coaches and clinicians at every level and throughout the calendar year to get the best out of their athletes while improving the health and wellness of the athletes. If you are a volleyball coach, parent of a girls' volleyball player, or an athletic training aspiring to be in this space, this article is for you!

What a week for senior kinesiology student Kennedy Koehler as graduation is just around the corner! 🎉

This week, Kennedy received a Chancellor’s Award for Excellence, while both her sorority and undergraduate student organization were also recognized for their accomplishments. She also presented her Honors Thesis and delivered a presentation worthy of a regional or national conference.

Kennedy has played a major role in collecting and organizing data for our 2-year volleyball and sport specialization research study funded by the GLATA and the NATA Research and Education Foundation.

We are incredibly proud of all of her hard work, growth, and dedication throughout her time at UWO. We cannot wait to see what the next two years bring as she continues at UWO to pursue her master’s degree in athletic training!

Congratulations, Kennedy — your future is bright! 💛🖤
