Historically, Osseo used the siren as a “lunch bell” at noon and a “go-home/dinner bell” at 6 p.m. It dates back to when...

Historically, Osseo used the siren as a “lunch bell” at noon and a “go-home/dinner bell” at 6 p.m. It dates back to when Osseo was much more agricultural and people working in the fields needed a way to know it was time to stop for meals or head home.

And as we know, Osseo still does it today, which is why you can hear it twice a day even when there isn’t severe weather. 😆 The actual Minnesota emergency-siren test is generally 1 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month.

So basically:

* 🕛 12:00 p.m. in Osseo: old-school lunch bell
* 🕕 6:00 p.m.: old-school dinner/home bell
* 🕐 First Wednesday at 1 p.m.: emergency siren system test
* 🌪️ Other times: potentially an actual emergency/weather warning

It’s honestly one of those weird little pieces of Osseo history that survived long after the original reason disappeared. 😂
